What radio stations do you listen to often?

I listen to different genres of music. I listen to Fresh 102.7, 106.7 Lite Fm and WCBSfm 101.1 often. I will mention the other stations I like later.

it's been years since I turned on a radio, literally...

music = PC (both online and Cds)

news = online sites

I have XM radio and generally listen to MSNBC, Outlaw Radio, Garage, and the classic rock stations.

But during the day, I toggle back and forth between Rush Limbaugh on AM radio, and MSNBC.

Here at home my go-to stations are...

* CBC Radio One and Two - 99.1 FM and 94.1 FM, respectively

* JAZZ.FM91 - 91.1 FM

* Espace Musique - 90.3 FM

These are all public stations, and when I travel, too, I tend to follow the pattern of tuning into local public radio affiliates and/or jazz stations (though rarely "smooth jazz" formats)

Listen only to internet radio - specifically iTunes - by genre of the moment -which can flip from talk with CBC to Golden Oldies (60's/70's) to Reggae to R&B/Soul. I haven't listened to 'terrestrial' radio in years; the playlists are redundent, the commercials annoying and much of the music is regurgitated crap.

Feel free to direct me to any of your favorite internet radio sites.

Radio (law) sucks in Austria. We have Superfly playing a lot of Nu Soul, Motown Soul and stuff like that, and FM4 being the hipster station with modern new wave and electronica and stuff like that. It is forbidden by law to have a private radio station and chose what music you want to play...

That's what I really envy Americans for. Whichever state/region you visit, you have one hundred stations covering all genres there are, with people on the radio not caring about what they talk about (often being quite politically incorrect even), being like huge radio discussion forums in between playing pure classic rock, pure quiet storm, or pure fusion jazz. Fucking great.

So, internet radio it is, for me. And I like the Neo Soul/RnB/Quiet Storm stuff a lot, lately.

WDRV 97.1 The Drive. Classic rock and roll on a shower radio with an awful walkie-talkie-like speaker. I love it!

I mostly listen on iTunes, where the stations' names change quickly, but there's always more than enough for every single genre you could think of.

Quiet Storm is a term that was coined for those smooth, slow, ethereal sounding, soulful, sometimes jazzy, sexy rnb ballads á la Maxwell's cover of "This Woman's Work", for instance.

Related to Quiet Storm are also artists such as Sade, Marvin Gaye (talking about the early incarnation of that style), D'Angelo (although he's a bit more "street" than the polished sound of most Quiet Storm songs), ...

For that matter, Prince's "One Kiss At A Time" is a very good example of Quiet Storm, for instance.

NPR & MPR (Minnesota Public Radio)

MPR includes "The Current" which sort of our alterna-radio station.

Obviously both are public, listener supported stations.

I also listen to KFAI on occasion, which plays a variety of R&B, funk, that kinda thing.

I don't know whether iTunes is available in India, and, more to the point, whether I can get to it in Linux..... could you explain the concept to me? Is it a player software that lets you tune in to many streams? What do you mean "where the stations' names change quickly"? Then how do you find/pick a particular one?

iTunes is pretty standart in Europe and the U.S. and quite a genius concept. It's a media player, a music shop, a synchronisation platform (for your iPhone or iPod) and an online radio network all in one.

Check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes

NPR is about all I listen to at this point, radio-wise.

It's fun to turn on the college station from time to time, as well, and I might set my alarm clock to the jazz station sometimes, too.

I only listen to the radio when I'm at work on my MP3 Player, here's the local stations I listen too here in Philly:

Old School 100.3 - They play all the "Standard" old school R&B jams from the 60's, 70's, 80's and the new standards from the 90's. They also play select "safe" Hip Hop songs from artist like Dougie Fresh, Chubb Rock, Sugarhill Gang etc.....

105.3 WDAS FM - They play the same "Standards" that the other old school R&B station plays and they also play the current R&B artists like Robin Thicke, KEM etc.........

97.5 The Fanatic - This is one of our local 24/7 Sports Talk radio stations that is also a ESPN affilate

94.1 Sports Radio WIP - This is the other Sports Talk station that is a CBS affilate

Oldies 98.1 WOGL - They play all the hit records from the 60's, 70's and 80's from every genre except Hip Hop.

Power 99 FM - This is our main Hip Hop & R&B station playing today's hits in those genres, I only listen to this station sometimes, lol!!

107.5, WBLS is another popular staion in N.Y.C. For classic soul and R & B. I like the Quiet Storm with Lenny Green. That station needs to play more of Prince's current songs. I am just saying. wink

Only time I listen to music stations is in the car. My favorites are

WBLS 107.5fm (only when they play the classics)

WCBS 101.1fm (oldies)

WWSK 94.3fm (alternative/grunge)

Most of the time I listen to sports-talk radio, WFAN 660am(or 101.9fm) and ESPN 98.7fm (which used to be longtime favorite KISS here in NYC).
