Do you like jimi hendrix?

Mods...please don't move this to the music non-prince section... it isn't about music... it's a personality test

indifferent.

when I was a little electric guitar playing freak teenager I bought a couple of cassettes but I can't say I fell in love.

I like that Dweezil has his guitar now, and I think the orchestral version of Hey Joe that my parents had on an LP was pretty cool.

I'm the mistake you wanna make

I saw a doco where Eric Burdon said he saw him Chris Brown-ing on a groupie so I've definitely cooled on him as a person.

I like some of his music and of course he is a rock music icon but your statement reminded me of an article that claimed that Jimi Hendrix used to throw Jack Daniels bottles at girls and that he had some very misogynistic tendencies. I believe that he definitely had a softer side, too, and I can´t judge him but I wonder how some of his fans who love him dearly but who criticize other artists for their misogyny feel about this. Or whether they even know about it.

It definitely changed the way I feel about him.

If this isn't about his music, then I find the question impossible to answer being that I never met him in real life (aside from the fact that I was born 12 years after his death). How can I say if I like someone if I've never met him? All that's left is my judgemental opinion based on things that have been written about him based on someone else's opinion about what really did or didn't happen as far as his personal actions go. So sorry, the question can't be answered on this end.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Like his music? Definitely nod...didn't start listening to any of it until I was an adult, though.

jimmy suffered from a confusion that was hard to detect.

he wasn't deranged, and masoginistic wasn't even a thing, back then.

people saw him smile and laugh, but bein 'owned' didn't sit well

with him. people 'loved' his music, yet, they didn't give a fuck about him.

if anyone has been in that position in life, congrats on not blowin your

brains out already.

i've never sat down and talked with him. he didn't spend much time here

and i was a lil kid. my step father (another term for mother's boyfriend)

was his cousin and he talked with him a few times when i was around.

they would laugh for awhile, then the convo would get quiet.

the ends of the convos would always end like this... "fuck 'em jimmy"

i am KING BAD!!!
you are NOT...

We can't really tell or judge by the small footage or film we have in YouTube or documentaries, his career was so little... But, from what people say, or from that "Are you the best guitarist in the world" interview, I can notice that he is humble & sweet..

I would invite him to dinner too, I would have a nice conversation with him, In fact, why we don't create a topic about who from artists you like to invite to dinner.

I don't know him well. But he seemed unconventional. I typically like unconventional people. People who aren't scared to try something new...or something that is 'wrong'...and not for those simple facts...but because they actually like it. I respect the losses that people who live in the 'fringe/edge/...the badlands so to speak' tolerate.

Like all extremely talented musicians im sure Jimi could have been difficult at times. Also when a person is a big drinker and drug taker(like jimi)it can change or intensify certain aspects of their personality. Some people become cooler when they party and some people become mean, nasty and sadistic.

From what Ive read and seen jimi seemed to be a pretty cool guy.

Cousin was cool in my book.

Here's a lil something from jimi's 1969 appearance on the Dick Cavett Show.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Yeah! I was 7 when Jimi Hendrix died so all I know is his music which I got into when I was 17. I read Scuse Me While I Kiss The Sky and from that it seemed like Jimi pissed a lot of people off with his stealing of guy's girlfriends, dumping them etc. I believe Jimi was murdered by his second manager, who confessed once that "Jimi Hendrix was worth more to me dead than alive." This puke is dead now too.

If you mean do I like him as an artist, then the answer is yes.

I've been a Jimi Hendrix fan since I heard his 1st single...

[img:$uid]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v140/audience/Covers/HeyJoesleeve.jpg[/img:$uid]

...Hey Joe. He's the main reason i'm a guitarist today.

In 1967, I met Jimi Hendrix. Here's what happened...

Hendrix had recently returned to the States after conquering England.
A buddy and I cut out of school to hang around the...

[img:$uid]http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b59/jbodine/NYC%20Invasion/Ciro20N.jpg[/img:$uid]

...Cafe Au Go Go on Bleeker Street in The Village to see if he'd be there rehearsing.

Across the street from the club was a walk-down bar called the Tin Angel.
We happened to look through the plate glass window and saw this guy with all this hair.
Looked at each other and agreed it was him. Luckily, across the street next to the club was a store called The Infinite Poster where I was able to grab a pen and some paper. As soon as he walked out, about 5 or 6 girls that were walking by mobbed him. He spoke very quietly and politely to each one of them while we waited our turn.

Here's something i'll never forget. One of the girls asked him for some little trinket he had attached to his vest. He told her, "That was a gift from someone. How would you feel if I gave away something you had given me?" Good answer. nod

Finally my time had come. I honestly didn't know what to say and barely muttered how I enjoyed his music and when the new album was coming out. He gave me an answer (can't remember as I was nearly passing out) shook my hand and signed the paper (Be Groovy, Jimi Hendrix) i'd handed him. He said it was a pleasure meeting us and vanished across the street and into the club. We just stood there in stunned silence for a few moments confirming that this actually just happened.

Talk about 2 kids that had a "rep" around the school from then on...

[img:$uid]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v140/audience/Emoticons/kneel.gif[/img:$uid]

...Untouchable.

And that's how you play productive hookey. wink

As for liking him as a person, all that I can say is that he was nice to me and that's where it ends.
Myself, i'm not interested in the vast majority of musicians/celebrities personal lives.
Chances are you're never gonna meet them or be friends with them so why invest the energy in gossip and hearsay.
Who knows how much of it is pure b.s. anyway.

I love the music and his vision. Do not love his devil may care attitude to life and his extreme drug intake. Hence why I am a bigger fan of Mr Clean - Prince.

Still, Are you experienced? is probably the greatest debut album ever made and the Experience was a great band. The music and the image Jimi projected was so far ahead of its time, it was unreal.
