I always laugh when I hear that...

I've had 3 Chevrolet Camaros in my driving life:

  • I got a 1979 in 1986 and drove it until 1994.
  • I got a 1995 in 1994 (brand new woot!) and drove it until 2011
  • I now own a 2010, and plan on driving IT for a while.

Well, congratulations...

...still doesn't change the fact that it's made out of cheap plastic, won't drive around corners, looks like a Skoda on the inside, and the engine size to power and fuel consumption ratio has not developed since the mid 80s and is a bit ridiculous, to say the least.

I can still understand the appeal of a muscle car though (although I'd never want one) - they look sporty, are fast on a straight line, have loud, massive engines and don't cost too much for all that.

But an American minivan? There are hardly worse choices, when you're looking for a practical car...

Dude, I had a 1996 Ford Windstar that I drove into the GROUND. Same as this one;

Not pretty to look at, I admit.

BUT! It drove like car, not a truck. It was the most comfortable car I've ever driven, not just for me as the driver, but also for the large family I drove around the country with. The ride was smooth - I didn't feel every damn bump in the road. And it was actually more fuel efficient than my smaller SUV.

I bought it used in 1998, and finally had to say goodbye ten years later when it developed a crack in the head gasket, and I couldn't justify spending $5,000 to fix a car that was at tne end of it's life. But I nearly shed a tear as the towtruck carried it away. I would've bought another one if Ford hadn't lost interest in minivans.

Folks, your cars didn't last long because the materials used for the centre console were of premium quality, or because your cars went around corners, or because the rear of a Corvette can't be simply pushed in by hand, you know...

But whatever floats your boat, I guess...

Exactly.
My boat has been "sufficiently floated" over the years.
