GDOLOGY 101 - THREAD GENRES Welcome to GDology 101, the on-line course that will introduce you to the fine science of Gdeology. While still in its infancy, the burgeoning field has already improved our understanding of the basic GD laws and principles.
LESSON ONE : THREAD GENRES Praise-an-Orger threads : Any thread that is created with the intent of praising another Orger. Includes Appreciation Days, award threads and voting threads Drama threads : Any thread that is created to share outrage in an excessively dramatic way. Chain threads : Or Fast Post threeds, as they are called in some circles. These invite the poster to create a post with a minimum of effort, usually no more than a few words. This kind of thread requires great ingenuity from the part of the creator, who must find the perfect reply triggering device. Archival threads : Threads that seek to collect or document the Lore of the Org. Parody threads : Threads that have parodic intents, that seek to find humor in imitation. Includes self-parody. Personal Event threads : Birthdays, funerals, surgeries, etc. Dumb threads : Those are the threads that very smartly imitate dumbness for entertainment value... I hope. Slice of Life threads : Threads that are announcing a mundane event such as going to the grocery store, just to share the little details and fully evoke the essence of daily living. Fake flame threads : Another branch of parody, these threads are mock aggressive. Like Gladiators with foamy plastic swords. Hypocritical threads* : threads created by people who claim not to like when some threads subject matter and discussion are not right in what goes on in "their" world but does the same. Psychodrama threads : threads that seek to imitate real life, such as having a waitress that serves coffee. Some bad apples have said this category should be renamed "Let's pretend the Org is real life". Discussion threads : Sometimes, people actually want to discuss a topic seriously. Useless Nonsense Threads** : Those threads created for no reason whatsoever, letting the subsequent posts define what the actual topic of the thread will be. Useless Nonsense Thread topics include the infamous "Voomy Toom Tooms" thread (which turned into the very first-ever 'Shausler Org Awards' thread), and the always popular "." threads... Ellipsis Threads** : Threads in which the topic titles are incomplete and end with elipses, forcing the viewers to click on them to see what the thread is actually about... Game Threads: Threads that invite Orgers to participate in a game and stimulate interactivity. Real Life Coordination Threads*** : Threads that coordinate activities between orgers in real life. Picture Threads*** : Threads that collect images from around the internet related to a certain topic. Includes "Death by Chocolate", "post cute puppies and kitties here" and the infamous big titties thread. Poetry Threads : You guessed it. Emoticon Threads : Threads that invite to use emoticons. Poll Threads ***: People are invited to vote on a certain question. Favorites List Threads ***: People are invited to list their top 5 favorite movies, for example. Advice threads : Threads that seek or offer advice, particularly on interpersonal relationships. Protest threads : Threads that are created to protest a decision, a situation, etc. Polemic threads: Threads that seeks to create co troversy in order to force an hopefully meaningful debate. Current Affair Threads: News are discussed. Often conused with the Polemic genre. Sex Threads: Need I explain? Contributors : RdHull (*), Wellbeyond (**), Teller (***). We had AprilMichelle as the org coffee waitress for a day; it went fairly well...what would you call it? Experimental? Or was it a chain thread in disguise?
Aerogram Fear is the mind-killer.

I know what you mean. Unquoting is fine example of chain thread device.

Perhaps it's in jest, but I can't tell...
What the hell's everyone's problem with mrdespues? He's a pretty nice fellow. -------
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti... "I've just had an apostrophe!" "I think you mean an epiphany..."

How about real life coordination threads? The new book club and secret santa threads coordinated activities between orgers in real life. Maybe you can come up with a better name for it. Or are these documentaries? Fear is the mind-killer.

I nominate Picture Threads, which collect images from around the internet related to a certain topic. Remember "Death by Chocolate" and "post cute puppies and kitties here" and the infamous big titties thread? Fear is the mind-killer.

I've revised the list a bit and added a few categories. As you can see GDology is a science in the making. Here's a few I added.
Advice threads : Threads that seek or offer advice, particularly on interpersonal relationships. Protest threads : Threads that are created to protest a decision, a situation, etc. Polemic threads: Threads that seeks to create co troversy in order to force an hopefully meaningful debate.
