I'm making parmesan crusted chicken.

Had a dress rehearsal last nite since I

hadn't tried the recipe before.

Pretty good if I must say so.

And not too difficult to make. biggrin

I was tempted to make a purple sweet potato pie. Maybe this weekend. I can see my family's face now :horror: lol

Since I started brining my turkeys everybody wants turkey on turkey day, so that's easy.

We have a redundant menu.

Every year it's the same; Turkey, stuffing, cheesy potatoes, rice, lasagna, salad, and sometimes a roast pork loin.

My mom & I were racking our brains trying to come up with something different this year, but the kids are so picky that if we did something out-of-the-box they probably wouldn't eat.

sigh

I've never done a green bean casserole...in fact I've only ever eaten it ONCE in my life. I was tempted to try to make one.

OR...maybe we'll find someone making nacatamales (Central American style tamales, different than Mexican ones) and ORDER some. No mess.

wink

I'm waiting to see what you all are making, for ideas.

nod

What the deal with Sweet Potatoes and Yams?

It is a dish that is similar to ceviche.

It is raw fish with coconut milk, peppers, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, and other things.

Turkey, stuffing (separately made), cranberry sauce-made with rum, collard greens, wild rice, macaroni&cheese, candies yams, stuffed acorn squash (stuffing made with apples, cinnamon, brown sugar), flan-orange, pinapple upside down cake, tembleque....

I think that's it. No spiral cut ham... there will be bacon in my mac n cheese... like 4 cheeses. lol

Taking the collard greens and cranberries sauce and desserts to my sisters... making double of those to share... the rest, me and my three will devour.

geek Ahem-!
First I'll begin by pointing out that there are two types of "corn" - traditional yellow "sweet" corn that we serve at the table in the USA, and white non-sweet corn - or MAIZE - that we feed to cattle in the USA.

The traditional Mexican tamal is made of maize with some bean or meat filling, wrapped in corn husks and steamed.

The traditional Central American nacatamal is made of maize two ways - a plain outer batter and a spicier "red" inner batter - with meat (usually pork but sometimes chicken) and assorted veggies (potato, chick peas, green peas, & olives) as a filling, wrapped in plantain leaves.

The plantain leaves give it a very distinct flavor. When my mom used to make them here in the USA, wrapped in aluminum foil, the taste was definitely lacking.

There's another type in Central America similar to the Mexican tamales that we call Montucas. They are made with sweet corn, no filling, wrapped in corn husks, and served with crema (it has the consistency of sour cream with the sweetness of cream cheese) and queso fresco (fresh cheese).

Now I'm hungry for tamales. drool

Nothing like the other 96% of the worlds population that does not celebrate Thanksgiving.

Its funny how you have it, as the Indians virtually had their land stolen and nearly wiped out by the greed of the colonists.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Well, I would think that at any given month some country somewhere is celebrating something that 90+% of the world doesn't know about, so I guess they should stop celebrating anything until they get the world's approval on it first.

I'll pour out a libation in remembrance for the struggle and sacrafice my NA brothers and sisters have endured, but they can't have my house nor the land it sits on back, sorry. And I'm going to enjoy my day off, and the fruits of my labor.

As per request from my guy's family:

Brussels sprouts with carmelized shallots

"Puppy chow" - a midwestern delicacy made from Crispex cereal coated with melted peanut butter and chocolate and then covered with confectioner's sugar drool

They usually also have mac & cheese, green beans, salad, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, turkey, and pie for dessert.

I'm not really into Thanksgiving. One year I spent the holiday moving across the hall (from one apartment to a new one), doing my laundry, and watching movies. It was great!

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
