Well tonight's game wasn't that shocking, as Detroit's #3 starting pitcher did lead the league in ERA. Lester's performance was encouraging, and the offense won't stay quiet for long. At least the Sox didn't get no-hit or lose because of a bad umpiring call. lol

It may not have been shocking to you, but seeing how terrible Anibal Sanchez pitched against Oakland and how bad the Red Sox lineup made Matt Moore and David Price look in the division series, I would not have guessed that the highest scoring team in the majors would be nearly no-hit with 17 strikeouts last night.

Oakland can't catch a break when they play Detroit in the playoffs. It's the third time the Tigers knocked them out I believe.

Billy Beane's A's have always choked.

It is true that since he became GM, Oakland has made the playoffs more times without ever advancing to the world series more than any other team.

Actually the Braves might have them beat there. They are chokers too. lol

That's the beauty of baseball, past performance doesn't guarantee future results. Look no further than the series in early September, when Detroit's #4 starter shutout Boston on Labor Day and then just two days later the Sox scored 20 runs against the Tigers. lol

Last night was more like the Red Sox I know. Even with Verlander pitching for the Tigers in game three, I would not at all be surprised if last night's momentum change gives Boston three wins in Detroit.

You had more confidence than me! Can't believe Tazawa struck out Miggy in the 8th with one out and runners on the corners, that was the game right there.

Fielder really does choke every postseason. lol

Really hoping for an '04 World Series rematch, the people of Saint Louis were the nicest of any city I've been in. Guess I should be rooting for the Dodgers to win 2 of the next 3 lol

I'm NOT hoping for a '04 World Series rematch. At the beginning of this thread I said of the ten teams making the playoffs, the only two I don't want winning are the Cardinals and Red Sox so of course it looks like those two will be facing each other in the WS. Apparently I reverse-jinxed them. confused

I'm convinced there will be a Game 7 in Boston.

As much as I like AGon and Crawford, I can't root for LA. I just don't like the way they went about putting together a team. I hate when teams buy championships.

LA didn't buy those guys, they traded for them. wink

The Cardinals are the Yankees of the National League. They win all the time. Give another team a chance.

The Cardinals are the Yankees of the National League. They win all the time. Give another team a chance.

The proper definition of buying a championship is based on total payroll, the Dodgers at $216M are at least 35% higher than every other MLB team ... well, except of course for you-know-who!

Cards have been in only three World Series since 2004. I wouldn't say that's all the time, but I can see why you'd think that by comparing them to the Yankees who have been in only one World Series during the same time period. wink

And I might add I'm rooting for St. Louis also because I have Cardinals tickets for WS Games 4 & 5 whistling

You say "only three World Series since 2004" as if that isn't a lot. No other team has been in the World Series that many times in the last ten years. And this year will be their fourth appearance. If you ask the Mariners if the Cardinals win all the time, I'd bet they'd say yes. lol

I'm sure in 2001 you weren't saying "Anybody except the Yankees, they've won 3 championships over the past 4 years ... give somebody else a chance." lol

It's all relative, three world series in a decade doesn't seem like a lot when other teams like the Yankees are in the World Series 6 times over an 8-year period (1996-2003) ... now THAT's a lot! lol
