Yeah but it would be better to transfer. It'll probably bring back more free space.

Something about that makes me nervous. boxed

Why? You think you'll mess up your drive?

I don't know if I know how to set it so it'll back up everything that the computer backup's backing up. boxed

BTW: I just deleted one of the older backups, figuring that should do the trick. No dice. sad I'm worried about deleting more? Should I be?

That's why I say, try transferring... deleting possibly won't do the trick if you delete it and you can't recover it. You don't have a Recycle Bin?

So, you're saying I should drag some of the backups to the Recycle Bin? confuse

No I was asking that if the backup went to the Recycle Bin when you deleted it.

What do you mean no dice? Are you saying it didn't free up any space on the D drive? Because that's sort of impossible. If you delete stuff from a drive it should show some additional capacity. What is possible is that your backup files are protected so although explorer might let you think you're deleting files they won't actually be deleted. You can check if this is the case by looking to see if what you deleted is mysteriously still exactly where it was.

Assuming you're using some version of windows backup services I can tell you that most (and probably all) of them do not overwrite old backups, but somewhere there will be options to manage backups which should allow you to remove old ones (how exactly that is done will depend on the version of windows and therefore the version of backup services you're using).

Failing that the easiest way should be to copy your backups onto your external drive (if you have the space on it) and then delete them from your backup drive.

Sorry; I should have been clearer. Deleting that backup didn't create enough space for a new backup.

By the way Ace, why don't you switch to Linux? smile Then you won't have to deal with all this crap.....?

I don't know from Linux. boxed

I don't know what you mean by "from Linux", but.... why don't you go to ubuntu.com and download and burn yourself a copy? You can try it out as a LIVE DVD, i.e. you won't have to install anything to try it out.

Make sure you burn it as an IMAGE in your DVD burning software, do NOT write the .iso file to disc, it won't work. Hurry up and tell us how it went smile

It's just a figure of speech. It means 'I don't know anything about Linux'. But, thanks for the suggestion!
