If you don't know someone or something and form an opinion on them or it, then you are practicing prejudice.

He's actually a great actor, just look at him in Magnolia or Risky Business or even a general flop like the recent Oblivion. He's good. and very professional on the set from what I've read over all these years.

And in personal life he's the guy that rushed to save someone getting crushed,, and then there was even another incident where he helped someone.

He's the victim of the village mob mentality based on bad publicity and media reports (I don't think anyone on here actually knows him or knows anything abut him outside what is reported in the news or magazines), his chosen "religion", his high profile divorce, and also the whole in the closet status in pop culture perception.

I did meet a guy that was his personal assistant for a few years recently. And he did say that Tom Cruise really tries to enforce Scientology principles onto everyone working for him.

Did you all know Beck is a Scientologist?

Yes I know Beck is a Scientologist but I have never heard him say the type of crap Tom Cruise does. I don't need to knopw someone personally to know if I will dig them or not.

nod

This is ridiculous.

I do not know Tom Cruise but his views on mental health treatments is enough to not want to know him as a person.

Agreed, his views on mental health might be way off but so are the views/beliefs of many people posting on here, and you might have some friends or family you still would hang with that you disagree with on some issue, moral, practice. (and he is a talented actor picking a range of roles and character types [remember Tropic Thunder?], and has also reportedly done many good things as well)

But I was just playing off the general statement you typed... because I know that many people are cool to hang with but from an outside perspective seem uncool to hang with. Maybe Prince is one of those?

Point taken.

I have no desire to hang out with Prince either though. lol

I don't hate him. I do hate this "Hollywood Royalty" crap. They are just Actors/Actresses nothing more, nothing less (And the are over paid for what they do).

My issue with TC is that I think at best hes mediocre, honestly the only movie I think he was good in was Risky Business, but the self importance and hype turns me off. Plus his beliefs on mental illness is bonkers and that's part of Scientology.

Oh and hes annoying as hell.

yeahthat

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

He's okay, and has done a nice bunch of movies. But he kind of seems like he's trying to hard at times. He's not entirely believable from an emotional standpoint.

And as a person, he still seems like he is acting. He's just so damn pumped all the time (much like his buddy Will Smith) that you just want to punch him or puke or something.

That level of pumpedness reminds of those people who sell a lifestyle
You know, work 4 hours a day - from the beach!
They are full on, I've seen then, walking around the pool with their laptops
on their shoulders skyping about how excited they are and how perfect their lives are. Dropping words like networking and empowerment and success and blahblah
I'm the mistake you wanna make

I must have seen an interview or some clip many, many years ago with him in it because as far back as I can remember he always gave me creepy vibes. As a result I've only ever seen one of his movies - War of the Worlds...and I liked it alot.

I don't really know much about him because I tend to tune anything about him off...but he definitely gives off some weird creepy vibe. I feel the same way about Alec Baldwin and that John Hamm dude.

Yes, a bit creepy. Like the above post says, also too "pumped" all the time. It doesn't seem natural, but rather plastic. Like, if you remove his face you'd find he's actually a cyborg or something. His smile too perfect, his eyes twinkly but kind of ... Cold.
And, again, I find him GLIB, which is ironically what he accused Matt Lauer of being when he was politely just suggesting that maybe psychiatry can help some people with post-partum depression.
But yeah, he's had quite a career, lots of good movies and roles.

This post is summed up by that moment.

I think if Tom had done less personal interviews in general, the public's opinion may not have changed on his work.

Damage is already done, however.
