sigh After finishing my box of tissues, I have to say, last night's episode was very well acted. Especially the scene with Eddie and the what's his face agent when he was being interrogated. I felt so much suspense in that scene that I nearly changed the channel. I couldn't almost take it. lol Secondly, when Frank Capone was gunned down, Al's reaction actually made me feel sorry for him. I actually liked Frank.

How about Purnsley acting like he's the king of heroin? lol And Gillian going from prostitution madam extroadinare to heroin whore. disbelief

Poor Eddie. sad As soon as Nucky complained about his socks, I knew what Eddie was going to do. bawl

Next week, more Richard and Chalky!!! Also, looks like we'll be seeing Luciano too! excited

  • Eddie will be missed. cry But I would rather see him go like that, then have Nucky kill him for disloyalty.
  • I Googled Frank Capone, and he actually died like that.
  • Gillian annoys me. Always has.
  • I can't wait to see Chalky and that singer next week. biggrin

There are moments in each season that prove that Sopranos DNA runs through Boardwalk's veins. Eddie's character blossomed just as he was leaving, which happened a lot in The Sopranos. The last 5 minutes of the episode, with Eddie's final moments, were Sopranos-esque.

Secondly, when Frank Capone was gunned down, Al's reaction actually made me feel sorry for him. I actually liked Frank.

Though a real-life character he also served as the last restraint on Al . . . and the only one who knew that Van Alden/Mueller has it out for Al.

Big fish, small pond. I still feel for Gillian, because she was addicted against her own will. Then again, as with so many other things, her plans (to inject Gyp last season) backfired too. But maybe Roy will help her turn it around. Gretchen Mol's performances have been underrated.

Richard Harrow is the most compelling character in the series, for my $. But I am really hoping to see more of Lansky and Luciano together. Their story is a better version of HBO's How To Make It In America!

I was particularly struck by the cinematography in this past episode--which may have been the same throughout the entire series, but for some reason it really stood out this time--like the off center framing and especially the scene where Gillian confronts Purnsley where he is shot from below to give him more stature in her presence whereas in Purnsley's other relationships, he's pretty low on the totem pole. Very cool.

EVERY HBO anchor has had a "sophomore slump" during its 2013 season. Game of Thrones, True Blood and Boardwalk Empire have ALL had plodding "setup" episodes in the middle of their season.

True.

I have to say as well (off topic) that I'm in love with the wardrobe of this show. It's so flawless. The three piece suit Steve Buscemi wore during the scene when Nucky met with Margaret was FIERCE. nod

Boardwalk Empire has been the most influential television show in the fashion world since Miami Vice. Any men's fashion mag published since 2011 is proof of that.

Stand aside, Crockett and Tubbs . . . Nucky Thompson and Chalky White are America's Style Kings now!

Hell yes nod GQ should do a "the men of Boardwalk Empire" spread...with Richard included too. Richard was styling even with the arm in the sling in this latest episode. lol

pray Please tell me that Chalky is well aware of the game that is being played with him and that he has some bag of tricks up his sleeve.

Okay, Jeffrey Wright must be doing his job well because I'm ready for Dr. Narcisse to be found out and killed already. Purnsley too.

Margaret...well some things never change.

Gillian. Well glad she kicked her heroin addiction with Roy's help, but she still doesn't deserve to get Tommy back.

Eli. I don't know where this is going to go between Eli and his son.

i find margot bingham very beautiful and talented. the character she portrays Daughter Maitland is a bit mysterious. i wonder if chalky's wife will bust him when she finds out about his affair with the singer.

margot bingham. her vocal style is haunting imo

excerpt: “When Margot came in to audition, she really blew us away. Her voice is just incredible,” said Terence Winter, the creator, writer, and executive producer of the HBO drama.

Yep that and in either season 2 or 3....I believe it was 3, where they were at the dinner table and it was revealed that his family basically takes him for granted. Despite the fact that his money is what put them in that nice big house, fancy clothes, have food on the table and able to provide education for his children.

As for last week's episode:

- Looks like Chalky is in for it this week.

- More Meyer and Lucky, please.

- Maitland is troubled and trouble.

- I'm almost happy for Gillian but we'll see how things go.

- Purnsley was ALWAYS trouble; he's as loyal as his options.

Well, I must say, tonight's episode was quite good.

SEE I knew Chalky was smarter than what it appeared. Valentin is so consumed with believing that Chalky is beneath him that he underestimated him and now its ON!!! Loved it when Chalky caused a rawkus outside the building that the play was being held in and torched the heroin right in front of Narcisse!!! clapping

Unfortunately, had Daughter not intervened and saved Chalky, Purnsley would have actually succeeded in killing him, but so glad it didn't turn out that way. Seems Daughter and Chalky made a real connection, I was moved myself seeing how Chalky showed his vulnerability, but this STILL isn't going to end well. Since Daughter has reneged on Valentin's plan, it's pretty much a done deal that Valentin will be dealing with her for disobeying him.

I liked how Nucky was giving Chalky some friendly advice. Especially since Nuck was in a similar spot as Chalky last season.

Can we talk about the play for a second? Okay so is it safe to assume that Valentin wrote this play? I mean he was mouthing the words of the lines verbatim as if the play was this award winning production....I get that one can have passion for something and really believe in it, but unfortunatley his audience really didn't get it. That scene gave me a strong flashback to the Randy Watson scene in "Coming To America". lol

Let's talk about Eli. Judging how easy Eli has flipped on Nucky in the past, I don't put it past him at all for him to have cooperated with the federal agents. I think it's really messed up how he's in a dilemma once again, testing his loyalty to Nucky....but you can't forget about Eli's temper and how he makes bad decisions based on emotion rather than thinking first. It took so long for Eli to get back into Nucky's good graces after he betrayed him before...perhaps there's a chance that Eli doesn't want to betray Nucky again and stay loyal, however, when it comes to his son, there's a chance that he has betrayed Nucky once again. Another option is Eli knocking off Agent Knox but not sure if he's willing to go that far (that is if his choice is to stick with Nucky). So I don't know how this is going to turn out.

Okay is it just me that doesn't get why Nucky has put trust into Sally Wheet? Or perhaps he really doesn't trust her, I don't know. That whole situation kind of makes me give a side eye to it. Sally appears to be this carefree, no nonsense type woman, but it's just something about her that annoys me and feels like she's not what she appears to be.

It was hilarious when Nucky clucked Doyle upside the head with Eddie's cane. spit Mickey has always been annoying since day one.

Okay...I believe there are only 4 episodes left in the season. While I love how they have expanded Chalky's role this season, I'm a bit disappointed that we haven't seen more of Luciano, Meyer and most of all, Richard. Perhaps they are still setting up the story lines for Meyer and Luciano's rise to power. Seems they are focused on Capone's rise to power at the moment. It'll be interesting to see what Van Alden is going to do next week.

Jeffrey Wright's "quiet fury" reaction shot as Narcisse made the scene complete.

I said in my last post that Maitland was "troubled and trouble." I thought she'd be trouble for Chalky, and that last scene with them was classic.

I liked how Nucky was giving Chalky some friendly advice. Especially since Nuck was in a similar spot as Chalky last season.

And still may be . . .

He's trying to convince himself he's noble as much as everyone else.

Eli wants to both protect his son and establish himself as the father figure. Does he still have some deep-seated beef against Nucky? IMO . . . absolutely. Still, we're dealing with gangsters who had NO CLUE what was coming from the new FBI.

Of course, it's Boardwalk Empire!

True enough. Seems like he has way more insecurities than Chalky does, yet he's constantly trying to show how weak Chalky is...the opposite happens instead.

Oh yes absolutely agree, even though Eli and Nucky have resolved their differences on the surface, Eli still has feelings of jealousy and resentment towards Nucky. It was evident in the things he said to Nucky when he got pissy drunk in last week's episode. Do you think in that moment at the table with the agents that Eli figured out why Eddie jumped out the window?

In S2, his issues with Margaret went unresolved and he paid a steep price. Last year, his issues with Billie cost him; when he left A-City to chase her he wound up on the run himself. This year? It may be his family. Again.

They've made the same mistake for the 3rd straight season. Meyer and Lucky are the most underused characters on the show. You may be on to something, S4 is Chalky's season; S5 may be Meyer and Lucky's time; they may beat Nucky to the punch in Florida.

IMO Eli's main problem is his temper. It clouds his judgement. He reminds me of Sonny Corleone. Acts first before thinking.

It's possible. I'm hoping that they will incorporate Richard more by next season, despite the fact that he's semi-retired from being an assassin..which I don't think that will last too long. In the previews for next week, he's shown on a beach...could he be paying Nucky a visit? After all, the position of Nucky's right-hand man is still vacant. hmmm

Episode last night, "Marriage and Hunting" was FIRE!!!!! excited

Nucky: I get it that Nucky and Chalky are even now, but Nucky seemed to be acting quite "high and mighty" with Chalky. And how is it that Nucky is telling Chalky that he keeps his business separate from pleasure....ummm Billie Kent anyone? Wasn't it Billie who was walking on the boardwalk with Nucky as Nucky conducted business with Rothstein and Luciano before Babette's blew up and killed Billie? Didn't Nucky neglect his family and not to mention his BUSINESS as well while he was getting his piece of ass in New York? Okay Nucky. And as far as Nucky going to Eli for business advice...it's not a good look.

Narcisse: Well, well, well insecurities plague at Narcisse. Jeffrey Wright does an excellent job with this character. I was actually quite surprised that Narcisse left Maitland alive...though he did a really nasty job of beating her. My goodness. She was unrecognizable.

Chalky: This season definitely belongs to Chalky. Between his wife acting like he doesn't even exist in his own house to him running to defend Maitland...to taking back control of his turf...to dealing with Nucky's rejection....to facing his daughter after she discovers his indiscretion, Chalk is between a rock and a hard place. Next week it looks like it's on!!!! excited

Gillian: I don't care that she's off heroin at the moment, she's still not fit to have custody of Tommy. She molested her own son, we can only imagine what she would do to Tommy if he's left in her care...but I strongly believe that it's going to work out in Richard and Julia's favor. Oh and Gillian's businessman boyfriend, I knew all wasn't right with him all along...but we shall see eventually what that will be and most importantly, how Gillian will react to the truth (in spite of her still not telling the truth about Jimmy's death rolleyes). It'll probably be enough to drive her back to her heroin addiction.

Richard: worship I'm so in love with Richard. The scene when Julia is suggesting that they get married was so cute. So it seems he'll be back working with Nucky...well it's about time! Nucky surely needs Richard on his team...especially when it will be revealed about Eli and what he's been up to.

Rothstein: The actor who plays Rothstein does a great job. This season has really been showcasing Rothstein's vulnerable side without displaying him as incompetent at the same time.

Van Alden: clapping This was definitely Van Alden's episode. His wife got on my ever loving nerves and I loved it when he FINALLY shut her up. Standing up to Capone, shooting his ex co-workers in cold blood, confessing to O'Banion who he really is...my goodness. We see now that George Mueller has left the building, Nelson Van Alden is here to stay.

Next week, we see Luciano and Meyer, FINALLY.

I was just saying this last week; it's not the first time Nucky's been inconsistent or hypocritical. It's also NOT the first time Nucky's talked down to Chalky. The two were on the outs when Chalky saved his bacon last year.

Narcisse: Well, well, well insecurities plague at Narcisse. Jeffrey Wright does an excellent job with this character. I was actually quite surprised that Narcisse left Maitland alive...though he did a really nasty job of beating her. My goodness. She was unrecognizable.

He probably felt like that was worse than death, AND he didn't really want to kill her.

Next week it looks like it's on!!!! excited

The scene on the porch where they were discussing wedding plans -- and how to scratch Purnsley from the guest list -- was straight out of the Sopranos, and his wife's knowing silence was vintage Carmela.

Gillian: I don't care that she's off heroin at the moment, she's still not fit to have custody of Tommy. She molested her own son, we can only imagine what she would do to Tommy if he's left in her care...but I strongly believe that it's going to work out in Richard and Julia's favor. I think he may be a fed and is going to work Gillian for info on the murders in exchange for custody of Tommy.

Richard: worship I'm so in love with Richard. The scene when Julia is suggesting that they get married was so cute. So it seems he'll be back working with Nucky...well it's about time! Nucky surely needs Richard on his team...especially when it will be revealed about Eli and what he's been up to.

Richard is going to put in work.

Rothstein: The actor who plays Rothstein does a great job. This season has really been showcasing Rothstein's vulnerable side without displaying him as incompetent at the same time.

Nuck threw him a huge old smokehouse bone.

Van Alden isn't running anymore. The scene with O'Banion was classic.

Next week, we see Luciano and Meyer, FINALLY.

Yes, FINALLY. Which may explain why Patricia Arquette was sleeping with a shotgun.

Yep very true.

Chalky: This season definitely belongs to Chalky. Funny you mention similarities with The Sopranos because I felt deja vu when Nucky was talking to Rothstein about offing Mickey...this is reminiscent of when Tony couldn't stand Ralph Cifaretto and could pretty much do without him, literally. Nuck feels the same way about Mickey.

Gillian: I don't care that she's off heroin at the moment, she's still not fit to have custody of Tommy. REALLY? hmmm Well there's only 3 episodes left so we'll find out very soon.

Richard: worship I'm so in love with Richard. The scene when Julia is suggesting that they get married was so cute. So it seems he'll be back working with Nucky...well it's about time! Nucky surely needs Richard on his team...especially when it will be revealed about Eli and what he's been up to.

Richard is going to put in work.

nod Damn right he is. But you know what, Nucky's reaction to him irritated me...I think it's the way he talked to him as if he was some type of annoying quack when this man could be the one to keep Nucky on top and stay that way.

Van Alden: clapping This was definitely Van Alden's episode. His wife got on my ever loving nerves and I loved it when he FINALLY shut her up. Exactly. I loved the scene at the end when he walked into the bedroom with this renewed commanding presence that we haven't seen from him since season 1. Well, correction, we seen this commanding presence, but it's been sprinkles of it (the whole iron on face scene last season).

Next week, we see Luciano and Meyer, FINALLY.

Yes, FINALLY. Which may explain why Patricia Arquette was sleeping with a shotgun.

Come to think of it, going back to when she made her surprise visit to AC, I'm wondering if she knew about the heroin being in with the shipment way back then and have her own side deal going on (which is the purpose of her sleeping with the shotgun)? hmmm

Alright Alright Alright!!!! Two more episodes left!!!! Can't believe the season is coming to an end already!!!

Nucky: Well, well, well, guess Nucky is realizing that he should have listened to Chalky when Chalky wanted to take Narcisse out early, but as Chalky told Nucky "he hasn't messed with any of your business yet"....oh how those words have come to fruition. Now Nuck has rounded up his men and preparing for battle.

Narcisse: Jeffrey Wright is killing it in this role!!! I say that because Narcisse is annoying the fuck out of me! Just when you think he's down for the count, he's got two more ace's in his pocket: Masseria and Mayor Bader. Lawd have mercy. It's guaranteed that he's going to be taken out either next week or the week after. When he was talking to Chalky's daughter, I was so afraid of what he was going to do with her. Did I hear her correctly when she said that Samuel stood her up at the altar? I need to re-watch.

Chalky: whew So glad he's managed to stay alive. This episode was full of suspense. At one time, the palm of my hands were getting sweaty while I was watching. Glad he has Richard on his side, that's one person you want on your team...especially in times when a war is on the horizon. One thing I don't get is why after Chalky and his men shot up Narcisse's hang out that he just turned around and walked away? He should have done what Capone does, after shooting up the joint, walk in and shoot point blank to make sure the man is dead. But I get it, they need this to last until the last episode of the season. It's crazy seeing Chalky going on the lam though. I wonder who Louis Gossett, Jr.'s character is in relation to Chalky? We'll see next week. Oh and Maitland isn't going to last. I just know it. Plus she's annoying me with singing those damn songs every week.

Eli: Seems like Eli is trying to outsmart Knox but don't quite know how he's going to get out of this one unscathed.

Margaret: This is why I've never liked Margaret. She's somehow convinced that it's okay in her mind to do business with Rothstein, who's sneaky as hell, but not Nucky? Huh? Rothstein is a step above in ruthlessness than Nucky is...though Nucky is more clever than Rothstein. For a woman who seemingly tries to go "straight" she's constantly kidding herself. All she did was make things worse for Nucky. SMH, urgh, this broad.

Looks like next week it's going to be on once again. In the preview, Richard looks like he wants to bitch slap Gillian. lol And honestly, I hope he does, but I know he won't. Wonder how all of this is going to turn out because Gillain is NOT going to get custody of Tommy.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Nucky: He was clearly outhustled and blindsided by Lansky, Narcisse and Masseria. The arc is becoming clear; he's getting outflanked. He may have been bluffing when he made the deal with Narcisse but it could come back to haunt him.

Narcisse: Jeffrey Wright is doing a fantastic job at peeling the facade away as Narcisse.

Chalky: I have a bad feeling he's headed for his Waterloo. He may believe Nucky sold him out, because Nuck didn't know the mayor had sold out to Narcisse at the time he arranged for deputies to get Chalky out of town. But man, that scene with Richard was great. How in the world Nucky wouldn't realize what Chalky does about Richard's value is beyond me.

Eli: He's in too deep for reasons well beyond his control. For once.

Margaret: You're absolutely right. She's kidding herself.

Next week: You never can tell. It won't take long for Capone to realize Torrio set him up. Gillian's real threat is Roy, not Richard. Can't wait to see how Lou Gossett, Jr. fits in!!!! Lansky and Lucky have to make their move eventually, but will it be this season?

Possibly, but Chalky did warn him. All Nucky saw at the moment was "his business"...if he would have come down a notch or two from his ego, then perhaps he wouldn't have been so blindsided.

Narcisse: Jeffrey Wright is doing a fantastic job at peeling the facade away as Narcisse. nod

Chalky: I have a bad feeling he's headed for his Waterloo. I thought the same thing, that he could possibly believe that Nucky betrayed him...but we'll find out where his head is at soon enough. I have to say, Chalky was a beast in this episode. Killing two deputies in a moving car with a fresh bullet wound. Both Michael K. Williams and Jeffrey Wright should be nominated for awards for their work this season.

You hit the nail on the head regarding how Nucky undervalues Richard. Richard is a beast alone, he doesn't even need a crew! lol Wouldn't it be something if Chalky and Richard ended up teaming up together? Man, that would be something else.

If they do, it probably won't be until the very end of the last episode of the season to pick up full speed next season. I'm wondering if they will incorporate Bugsy Seigel next season as well...or Frank Nitti perhaps. hmmm

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Chalky White (played by Michael Kenneth Williams) is the best non comedy african american male television character of all-time ... My 2 cent.

Legit argument, but Omar Little would have something to say about that. Maybe MKW should schedule a summit . . . lol
