The Mummery

OK, so it's Homecoming Week at the high school. All the girls are getting mums. But not mums like we used to have in the old days. You know, basically a flower and a ribbon.

No, mums these days are freaking life stories! There's a ribbon for each organization, each sport, each achievement, each EVERYTHING. My daughter's mum must weigh five pounds. And it has lights!

So where was this mum made?

At the mummery!

I love the mummery. Or rather, I love saying "mummery". I have never been to the mummery. To my knowledge, no man ever has. The mummery is run by women, for women.

Our mummery is a space in a mini-warehouse park. It's all fixed up with work tables, ribbons, glitter, props - whatever you can think of to put on a mum. You buy your material from the ladies that run the mummery.

There is no real point to this thread other than to introduce you to the most awesome word of 2013, which is "Mummery".

.

Never heard of these. shrug

*

I would have been so embarrassed if someone made something like that for me back in the day.

*

I prolly would have called it a mammary instead of a mummery. ( * ) wink

*

Those mums remind me of all the people who drive around with bummer stickers on their cars that say, "My kid is an Honor Student @ such & such high school". Instead of the bumper stickers, they should just attach one of these mums to the back of the car and drive around. rolleyes

LOL, no doubt it's out of hand. But most kids have them. Thank God this is the last one!

I've never seen a "My kid is an honor student at high school" bumper sticker. Those usually die out after elementary school around here.

But all that aside, isn't "mummery" a cool word? Say it out loud once and you'll be saying it all day, LOL. And laughing every time you do!

Hey, anything that gives rise to an awesome word like "mummary" can't be all bad!
