Craigslist sales: Are people getting killed in your city?

I used to sell a lot of stuff on CL.

Not now...........this is ridiculous.

Police seek link in Craigslist robberies

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —

DeKalb County police are trying to determine if the robbers who shot and killed a grandfather are connected to another similar robbery.

Police said Clarence Gardenhire was in town from Florida for the birth of his grandson. Police said a family member agreed to meet a man he contacted through Craigslist.com last week to buy some cellphones for his new business in Buckhead.

The family said Gardenhire and the relative showed up on Shadowridge Drive with $375 in cash just before 11 p.m. last Monday.

“We usually don’t do it late at night, but my brother was trying to help me get the business off the ground,” Norman Lopez said.

The family said Gardenhire was asked to come along because he has a gun permit.

Police said the robber pulled a gun on them, and when Gardenhire reached for his weapon, the robber fired five to 10 rounds, killing Gardenhire.

I was thinking about opening a small secured office site just 4 CL transactions.

If I weren't so tied up..............I'd look more into such a venture.

Ahh! OK. I typically do all my CL business at a neutral public place, and I try not to go alone.

To your question, the area around my old stomping ground, Cleveland, definitely has seen some Craigslist drama. From Wikipedia:

  • In 2013, Richard Beasley, a 53-year-old from Summit County, Ohio, was convicted and given the death penalty for luring three men to their deaths using a Craigslist ad for a non-existent job in 2011. Beasley was convicted in March of kidnapping and killing David Pauley, 51, of Norfolk, Virginia; Ralph Geiger, 56, of Akron, Ohio, and Timothy Kern, 47, of Massillon, Ohio. He was also convicted of the attempted murder of Scott Davis, 49, a South Carolina man who answered the Craigslist ad and was shot in the arm while escaping after meeting Beasley and the teen accomplice, Brogan Rafferty.[59]

Beasley recently has been sentenced to death.

Here in Toronto, I don't think we've had any Craigslist murders, but we do have the instance of some dude named Eric Alexander meeting a woman through personal ads on the site, then drugging and assaulting her at a hotel.

There are some crazy folks out there.

Wow.

I'd like 2 create a place where safe transactions could occur.

I'd hire cops to secure the place.

In Canada most of us use Kijiji, not Craigslist. I've sold and purchased many things and found apartments on it without so much as a little hickup.

I'm not saying that there are not scammers on Kijiji...but I've not really heard anything negative about it.

Canadians love Kijiji.

I'm learning to love Kijiji, too! In the past 2 months or so, I've bought a lemon tree, a Persian rug, a giant urn and a bunch of dried lavender there. I seriously need to get myself under control. timeout

Better hope you're not selling a car like poor Tim Bosma.

I have a friend who was assaulted last year when she went to someone's home to purchase something from Kijiji.

Best advice is........don't go to anyone's home and don't meet anyone alone.
