You rented it, so that makes a difference, my dear...lol 8)...I tend to try and make the atmosphere at home as scary as possible when I rent a scary movie...I watch it late, late at night, like around midnight, I turn off all the lights, I watch it alone...it's like I wanna be effected intensly by the video...unfortunately, 90% of the scary videos I rent suck massive donkey gonads, so I just end up falling asleep on the livingroom floor...

Most scary Movies come off as camp -- The ring is not one of those movies

This movie was horrible...I saw it in the theater with some friends and we all agreed it was tedious and dragged on too long. Also (maybe because the group of us has watched so many horror movies) we could finish the characters sentences w/o ever having seen the movie before. Many people laughed at the supposedly scary parts (like the horse jumping off the balcony) and many people wanted their $8.50 back after it was over...However if you liked/were scared by The Ring I would suggest checking out a movie called www.fear.com, as the plots and ideas are similar.

I rented Fear.com...putrid movie..lol...only the queasiness of possibly watching the "doctor" torture the girl was tense...other than that, the rest was very, very ordinary...

Funny about how you said you and your friends reacted to seeing "The Ring", because there were about 3-4 girls sitting to the right of me who were doing much of the same thing thru the movie...the audience would scream, and the girl next to me would say "Oh, please, that's not scary..."...lol...(although she was a little jumpy during the first scene as the girl walked around in the kitchen...heh)...however, when Samara crawled out of the TV, she was saying "Oh my God!!" and scared shitless...lol...I wanted sooo badly to lean over and say "Oh, please, that's not scary" back to her...lol 8)

I think people don't want admit their fear because "it's only a movie." I thought that way to, but the movie still affected me to the point where I was using the "stop" button a lot throughout the movie. People that say they laughed at this movie must have jumped a few times or watched it through their fingers or looked away during the intense parts.

I didn't think it was scary at all... but I did jump, only when the music changed and became loud. I really didn't find it scary.

See the original. Don't bother with these nonsense American remakes. Would you watch the American remake of Get Carter with Sylvester Stallone instead of Michael Caine? Of course not. Check out the original smile

Yep, definitely braver than me. Ijumped more than a few times, and I found myself thinking "I can't watch this, I can't watch this..."

Watching this in Dolby Digital 5.1 adds to the experience.

Which parts scared you? I thought I was going to be scared, so I stopped the movie right when Rachel got knocked into the well... but, when I finally did watch it, there wasn't anything scary there at all.

I do have a couple of unanswered questions about the movie though... I think I'll go and google!

Let's see, the general feel of the movie, and:
1)The Girls Face in the closet
2)Coming out of the TV bit
3)The part where the boy said "It's not going too stop." then the screen goes to snow and a quick montage.

Yeah, lame I know.

And too add too it someone buzzed the intercom to my condo while I was watching the old guy in the tub scene. The intercom buzzer is loud in the first place -- let me tell you, my heart was in my throat.

1.5 hours ago it was exactly 7 days ago that I saw that
movie with a friend.

I emailed her today to remind her of that and she replied
"Stop it, you're freaking me out man!"

So I decided, at 20:00 to just call her on the phone and
freak her out even more

evillol

However, the line was engaged all the time. Turned out she
was trying to call me too at exactly 20:00 to scare the
f*ck out of me.

Then I went and took the dog out for a walk, closed the
door behind me, walked 10 paces and the entire street just
went black due to a black out in the electrics.

Now THAT made me squeel like a little piggy.

I could barely restrain myself from screaming

"She's come to get me aaaaah"

smile

I'm a massive horror movie fan, must've watched a couple hundred of them in my lifetime...it takes a LOT to scare me and only one movie I've seen thus far has done it, because it was one of the very first horror movies I had ever watched. It also helped that I was 9 years old, alone in a basement on a stormy night. The only other movie that scared me is One Hour Photo...which is a bit more psychological and suspenseful...more of a thriller/suspense than typical horror, but if you consider it as a horror movie raise the count to two biggrin

I bet even if the original Ring was a shitty comedy, people would still pick it over the US version. Some folks think they're more sophisticated if they go with the original, foreign versions. Another form of rebellion.

OMFG! I watched it last night and it scared the shit out of me! I love horror movies but I'm the biggest scaredy cat in the world. The movie got over at like midnight and I went to bed at 1:30 to watch Purple Rain in my room.Big mistake! lol.I fell asleep like 20 minutes into it and then when I woke up it was over and my tv was all snowy...I was about to piss myself lol. I was just waiting for Samara to come out of my TV! THEN today my niece and nephew came over and a few hours ago my niece started crying(she's five) for no apparent reason and she just stood there with her head down...her hair was in front of her face and she was wearing a nightgowm. She looked just like Samara!! Me, my sister and our mother all noticed it at the same time and started laughing. My mother was like "omg! the little girl!!" It was scary...lol

Watched it last night!

Great movie! I can't say that it was all that scary, but it was very suspensful and interesting. I was totally into it the whole time. Good creepy and eerie feeling that other "horror" movies, like The House on Haunted Hill totally lack. It at least transcended camp, ya know? I haven't been this creeped out since...Signs, which was really fucking creepy.

Nice twist at the end. Two thumbs up! smile

Weird mixture of psychological thriller and straight out creep fest. That was eerie when she picked the fly off the tv screen. Or when she coughed up the amulet.

I saw it in the theatre when it first came out. I LITERALLY CRIED from fear. I was sitting there, crying, begging my friends to leave. I covered my eyes for most of it, and I missed about half of it. But it was a good movie!
I didn't go near my tv's or phones for about a week after.

I thought the Ring is not bad of a movie. Movies don't scare me, but I have to say that this one is one of the top horror movies I've seen. I recently rented the original RINGU Japanese version and did not like it as much. Its pretty ordinary if you ask me.

Two thumbs up! smile

Really? I didn't find either movie creepy really.

I'm watching it again tonight to see if I can find the creepiness!

Well, was it creepy this time?

No. sad
