Amazon to increase 50,000 temporary employees for Christmas

The world's biggest online retailer, Amazon.com Inc., is hiring more than twice as many holiday workers than it employs full-time year-round, just to meet the demands of the coming holiday season. Article resource:

Christmas season preparation

Amazon keeps its fulfillment center staff numbers in the United States around 20,000 all year long. During Christmas, however, the business will be hiring 50,000 seasonal employees to help fulfill orders. Amazon expects a massive increase in the number of orders it expects this year.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the number of employees is really closer to 69,000 worldwide if you add in part-time employees.

A permanent job chance

Dave Clark, vice president of global consumer fulfillment for Amazon, said some of that seasonal worker may find full employment after the holiday seasons, which comes with a 30 percent pay raise.

Clark said:

"Temporary associates play a critical role in meeting increased customer demand during the holiday season, and we expect thousands of temporary associates will stay on in full-time positions."

Holiday shopping season for you

The Friday after Thanksgiving, which has come to be referred to as "Black Friday," kicks off the holiday shopping season. It is the most popular day of the year for retailers, so they are getting their ducks in a row.

To be able to meet holiday shopping demands, merchants will hire seasonal staff usually. Merchants are hoping to have a brisker holiday than normal with the economy improving so well.

The National Retail Federation explained that there is going to be an increase in the number of seasonal workers hired this year at 623,000, a rise from last year’s 607,000 employed.

There are likely to be a ton of employees in major merchants, such as Kohl’s with 52,700 workers, Walmart with 50,000 extra employees, Target with 90,000 extra employees, and Macy’s with 80,000 additional employees.

Prior tax break

Amazon promised to produce 18 fulfillment centers this year to be able to add jobs to the economy, according to the Wall Street Journal. As of June, 18 of them were already opened. This is Amazon’s way of avoiding taxes just a little more. Normally, a person can go to Amazon and purchase a product without paying any taxes. Counties that have been pressuring Amazon to change this are getting the new distribution centers, which means more jobs for the economy.

Amazon has only 40 distribution centers in the country, according to the LA Times, but that fact is argued by the Wall Street Journal that claims 69 exist across the country.
