I cant see Orlando in the role. Of all the ones Ive heard up for the part I like the guy from Teen Wolf.

Hes got the dark brooding look down and is relatively unknown.

Orlando Bloom looks more like Tim Drake/Red Robin.

Outside of the fact I really have my heart set on someone else for that role, to me he looks a little fragile for the role.

What's wrong with Christian Bale still playing Batman? (I'll stop pleading for Val Kilmer or Michael Keaton, however.) Still, why do the studios think they need to recast every lead just to breathe life into a franchise? Did we really need a new Superman, much less a new actor to play him? Put Orlando Bloom back in those 'Pirate' movies... where he can be debonaire and sophisticated. But Batman? Heck, maybe Kilmer and Keaton wouldn't be so bad after all. confuse

Christian Bale already planned to retire from the Batman role after the final Dark Knight film. Warner Bros execs were going to have to find another actor either way.

Plus, it's going to be a different set up for the entire DC universe. It's not going to be Nolan's "Dark Knight" Batman anymore. But yeah, Bale said he thinks it's a role that should change every few films, and I don't disagree with him. I'm actually surprised they were able to keep him for those three.

I don't believe this rumor for one second. It's probably his agents and publicists trying to get him noticed. I believe all of these rumors more, and think all of them would be better choices...

"Teen Wolf" star Tyler Hoechlin, Armie Hammer, Josh Broli... the role."

As much as I dig Orlando Bloom, they need somebody who hasn't already been in a bunch of huge blockbusters. Weirdly, for somebody so young, he has. And speaking of age, he's too young. They're trying to cast this as late 30s/early 40s with an actor who can then age further into the part over a number of films.

Really? Late 30s/early 40s for Batman? That seems way off to me.

Yep. That's what I read, anyway...

“But the real insight is the kind of Bruce Wayne/Batman that Snyder is looking to cast. According to numerous sources, this Wayne/Batman will be in the late 30s or around the 40 mark. He will be established and rugged. This new movie will not seek to recount an origin story or the rise of the Dark Knight. Sources say the new movie is aiming for the tone of the relationship and fight seen in Frank Miller’s 1980s ground-breaking mini-series The Dark Knight Returns.”

I believe they're going for a Batman who, in theory, would be post Christian Bale/The Dark Knight trilogy. If you consider that people who are in shape, particularly with those who have boat loads of money, are staying fit and beautiful well into their 50s these days, it works.

And thank you, but boy do I absolutely hate the line break issue. I just don't understand why it can't be fixed. sad

Tell me about it!

As for Bloom? Eh. I like him well enough, but I'm not sure he's right for the part. But at this point I'll take just about anyone over Bale, whom I found supremely disappointing.

Yup. And the internet nearly exploded. I think this is a really interesting take on the choice, but I'm not sure that I agree with it all the same.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2013/08/23/ben-affleck-as-batman-and-the-price-of-artistic-freedom/

I don't actually hate Affleck at all - I never jumped on that bandwagon. He's a good enough actor and is growing into being a great director. I just don't think he has the gravitas to pull off this part. I just can't picture him as Batman with his Boston attitude and sideways smile delivery of nearly every line.

Edit: Boston, not New Jersey. Please, all of Boston and New Jersey, accept my apology. I was high - these things happen. shrug
