Lee Thompson Young -- who played the main character on Disney's "The Famous Jett Jackson -- has died after what officials believe is a suicide ... TMZ has learned. He was 29.

Sources tell us Young's body was discovered with a gun shot wound that appears to be self-inflicted.

Young currently appears in the TNT show "Rizzoli & Isles" -- and we're told when he didn't show up to work this morning, staffers called the landlord of Young's L.A. home to check up on the actor.

We're told ... when the landlord opened the door, he discovered Young's body.

Young was a rising star in Hollywood. After he made it big as a Disney star, he went on to play running back Chris Comer in the 2004 movie "Friday Night Lights."

It's all about what type of people surround these kids growing up.

It does seem that they have a hell of a time adjusting, but there are many success stories.

Don't forget that the ORIGINAL super-star child (Shirley Temple) grew up to be a well-adjusted, sucessful adult.

This absolutely breaks my heart!! What is going on???

How sad when someone takes their own life. A handsome young man who seemed to be living the dream. It just goes to show that no one really knows how bad someone is suffering behind closed doors. My heart goes out to his family and friends, such a terrible way to lose a loved one.

Yeah, with a second Flashforward. Sadly the character that Lee Thompson Young played in the show commited suicide.

I was a fan of "The Famous Jett Jackson" too......very sad.

i was so sad to hear this! he was a very handsome guy and a good actor.

Of course famous Jett Jackson is the one i remember as a kid but he was great in Friday Night Lights and Flashforward as well.

And a possible suicide? that is just horrible to hear

Things were different then though. These kids go through so much pressure during a very growing point of their lives.

Things were WORSE then!

All of them ended up badly.

I say that the difference between a successful child star and a failure is not only the harshness of the journey, but also the caliber of the adults that are there to guide you through it.

I never saw him on Disney but I loved him on R&I. Oh wow...

I never saw either show he was on, vaguely remember the Jett show, but it's still sad.

I found out where I remembered him from, the movie "The Hills Have Eyes". It will be interesting to find out why he shot himself in the head, whether he sufferred from depression or some other mental disorder or were there other things happening where he figured this was the best possible solution. It's always sad when someone decides taking their own life is the only way to end their sufferring but it's even more disturbing when it's someone so young and successful.

Yes he did and I remember saying 2 myself..............that was NOT the solution.

I don't know much about Lee. But the fact that he died under age 30 is still sad.
