The 2013 Kennedy Center Honorees have been chosen.

Billy Joel, Shirley MacLaine & Santana Among 2013 Kennedy Center Honorees!

9/12/2013 5:44 PM ET

Five names are set to receive their rainbow ribbon of honor!

The Kennedy Center has announced their annual honorees and we are liking who they picked this year! Some we can't believe haven't been chosen before!

Billy Joel is representing rock 'n roll. Shirley MacLaine is being honored for her accomplishments on the big screen (although we think it's no coincidence that she's finally being recognized after her guest spot on Downton Abbey!)

Jazz pianist Herbie Hancock is being awarded for his decades of smooth songwriting. And for the first time EVER, two Hispanics are being named Kennedy Center Honorees in the same year!

Carlos Santana and opera singer Martina Arroyo!

Estamos muy orgullosos!

The Kennedy Center has come under fire recently for not selecting Latino representatives for this renowned distinction. Before 2013, only two of the 186 honorees since 1978 were of Hispanic origin!

After hearing the news, Carlos Santana was so excited, he couldn't even stand up! The rock guitarist exclaimed:

“Can you believe it? Fortunately, I was sitting down when I heard the news, and my heart just expanded with gratitude.”

Congrats to all 5 of you! ¡Felicidades!

I'm pleased with this years picks...A long time coming for all of them..I'm gonna DVR the ceremony when it airs on CBS in December...

I don't think Joan's been inducted because the Honor is never in her Bio. She should be, she's earned her success the hard & natural old-school way. She has my vote. I found out recently that the President of the United States gets to pick 1 of the 5 honorees each year of his Presidency...So it's NO surprise that Paul McCartney got picked then the Mighty Oprah then David Letterman was right behind her....Yes I know Paul is a GOD, but keep in mind Obama chose to give him one of the Highest honors a President can bestow on an Artist prior to the Kennedy Center...The Obama's LOVE Paul....

I'm glad they're honoring MORE Latino Artists. I wanna see Asians as well. I say open it up to 10 inductees every year. It's time for some changes because CHANGE can be a good thing sometimes..
