"Does anyone actually name their kid "Tammy" anymore?" Why yes, some people still do. nod My sister-in-law has a younger sister named Tammy. Tammy has an identical twin named Amy. I'm sure it's not short for Tamara. As RodeoSchro said, it's cyclical. Popular names come and go and change constantly. You don't hear too many people with my first name anymore. Everybody I meet who shares my first name is around the same age that I am (or are a little bit older). biggrin

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Edith and Hazel are family names on my mother's side. Thankfully I was blessed with a mother who decided to stop the madness.

I went to high school with a girl named Ethel. I used to think, "Who the hell, in their right mind, would name their kid "Ethel"?" But as you said, it probably was a family name, maybe a grandmother or an aunt. I would HATE to have that name. ill

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

People don't give their kids names like Ruby, Bessie, Leroy or Ethel anymore either. Too many people want to be creative and make up weird, exotic names that the average person can't spell or pronounce.

yeahthat Some of the names that people make up are just plain stupid or ugly. ill

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I hear you on that! There are TONS of males named John in my family. My dad's name is John (although we call him Jack). My brother's name is John, and my sister-in-law's brother's name is also John.

My sister-in-law's brother John had a son that he and his wife also named John (although they call him by a nickname, can't remember what it was). When my sister-in-law and brother became pregnant with their son, they also decided to name him John. I thought to myself, "Why name the kid John, when we already have TOO MANY Johns in the family? My God, the kid needs a different name, don't ya think??"

They were thinking of naming him Cameron, which would have been a lot better (in my opinion). But they decided on naming him John. Naming him Cameron would have just made it a whole hell of a lot less confusing, IMHO. I know, it's their kid, they're going to name it what THEY want to name him, not what I want I think his name should be.

My sister-in-law used to call him "John Boy", which I totally HATED. barf barf Out of all the dumb names in the world, that one had to be the DUMBEST. Sounded like a hillbilly name of someone living in the mountains somewhere. barf God awful name. It reminded me of that 70's TV show, "The Waltons". I never called him "John Boy", I called him "Little John" (and still do). My mom calls him that as well. What's funny is, around the time this little boy turned 3, he started telling his mom not to call him "John Boy" anymore. Smart kid; even he knows that it was a DUMB name. lol lol
