UGH!! Cable TV, Internet, Phone is the new used car dept! I HATE IT ALL!!!
I have Time Warner Cable for everything and they are a bunch of SLEAZE BAGS!!!
Cable TV is one of my biggest household expenses. They are forcing millions of people to buy into overpriced bundles of services and channels that you don't really need.
I hate being held captive just to watch mediocre shows, or if I just want internet the price goes up!! THAT IS JUST WRONG!
10 Reasons Why Cable is a Big Corporate Scam So since much of the programming on Cable is subpar at best you would think that the cable companies would be ashamed to overcharge you, right? Wrong! The cable companies are making money hand over fist, while gouging you with fees and tricks to make you overpay. --- 1. Introductory prices (ex: first 3-12 months half off) are a trick to get you to sign a long-term contract. Once the introductory term is over you will overpay for cable for the rest of your life. --- 2. The Internet Bundle forces you to pay for services you don’t need and channels you will never watch. --- 3. If you cancel a service in the bundle all the other services you have will get charged at “regular price”, 50 – 100% MORE than the bundle price --- 4. Introductory prices are mostly for new customers. Once they hooked you on the original contract you don’t qualify for the “discounts” they sucked you in with. --- 5. Half the channels in cable are NOT in HD. HD TV accounts for less than 100 channels --- 6. A good portion of the channels are in another language! You are paying for things you can’t watch --- 7. You can get high speed internet for $15+/month. Through cable you will pay twice as much or more --- 8. Landline service through cable costs $30 PER MONTH. You can get landline service through MagicJack for $20 PER YEAR. Skype is FREE --- 9. Cable movies are only On Demand for a few months and then they’re gone. With Netflix or another service the same movies are ALWAYS available. --- 10. If you are late paying your cable bill you will be hit with late fees, restoral fees, phone pay fees or all of the above.
**** **** America once again has you by the balls!! I'm so tired of being nickle and dimed to death!!
Thank you for letting me vent!
Carry on. | |

I just pay for internet service. I can watch anything and everything on the internet for free and make and receive unlimited local and long distance phone calls via the internet for free.

get rid of it...I canned everything but internet 5 years ago. Don't let them hold you hostage. For now you can find all you want and more online, however, internet fees have been creeping too. Either way - we're slaves to the system.

I share your disgust with Time Warner and with cable companies in general. I have basic cable and basic Internet and it runs me 75 dollars a month. When i say basic cable i mean BASIC. I get no scifi, no CNN, no tbs, etc. I only get local channels and stuff like QVC and the jewelry channel. I do get discovery channel but DSC pretty much sucks now. Honestly I want to get rid of Comcast so bad but i cant. The location of my apartment is such that i can't get a strong over the air signal. There's a lot of tall trees, high buildings, trolley traffic and a Major Airport near my apartment so I'm SOL. Even if my manager did allow satellite TV, i think the satellite has to face South East and SE of my apt there's a bushy 100+ foot tall tree...
My Internet speeds are good but in the past 2 months my Internet bill went up 20.00. I now pay 55.00 dollars for Internet and 20 dollars for TV.

DirecTv is cool but once your contract runs out they sneak those increases up on you which caused me to switch back to my local cable company. They offered me a better deal than Directv and Time Warner ever could. Time Warner is a non factor because my local cable company blocks them and AT&T UVerse out in my area but you can' get satellite. Another thing i don't like about DirecTV is all those damn informercial channels. With my cable company there aren't any channels that show just informercials 24/7. The only advantage Directv has over my cable company is NFL Ticket but i usually go to the sports bar on sundays anyway unless the Steelers are on as the prime game. I still get NFL Network. Don't laugh at my funk

It's all a big rip off. Phone service, whether it be cellular, digital, whatever, is shitful. You are forced to buy a damn phone with all the bells and whistles, half of which I won't use. I never use up all my minutes in a month. The way cable has rigged its pricing, you have to damn near have a doctorate degree to decipher the best deals. Inevitably there are channels offered that I will never watch included in the bundle. If you want any premium channels, you almost must buy a bundle to get a decent savings. Comcast customer service is miserable. Half their support staff don't know their asses from their elbows and will downright lie to you. Talk to five different tech support and you'll get five completely different answers.

I didn't have a contract. The only thing I had to do was, purchase the dish, and they even reimbursed me for that, on my first bill. It wasn't like that with cable. For as soon as my "Introductory year" was over, my rates increased. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I went with Dish...I'm happy so far.
When I threatened to leave Time Warner Cable, they tried to seduce me with all these "unadvertised" packages, none of which served my needs.
I hope TWC shuts down very soon. They are one of the worst.
All I wanted to do was get rid of my land line and now I'm no longer a long time customer. What does that tell you!!? [Edited 7/26/13 16:53pm]

Checkout (landlines) Vonage, my mother and pays 18.95 a month.... they have different payment plans / options. My daughter ditched land line and cell phone and uses her iPod / iPad (VIOP) as her phone, unlimited minutes for calls and texting for $9.95 a month via the Internet Connection. She's never had cable, she watches everything on-line via computer: Satellite TV you pay a flat fee for the hardware or.... is that software and that's it.
If you want to pull the plug on cable / Direct TV, go old skool / new school. HDTV Antenna, The Leaf. I can attest to this, their antennas pull signals from God knows where; I've found something to watch when I couldn't find anything on cable. Still, you can watch a lot of movies and programs online for free. Most of the popular basic channels and major networks have their programs on-line or an app... all free.
And there are... free movies on
YouTube - free movie on youtube
It just a matter of looking around and finding the free stuff, a lot of people accept whatever is put in front of them hence, they assume they don't have options. That's understandable but there are a lot options... you just have to do a little research.
We still have cable (0n Demand) in the city but that account is used in Michigan and everywere around the country via a tethered iPad. In my instance my Comcast sub really is worth it.
