I tried. I just can't take Aaron Sorkin's writing anymore.

His writing is just obnoxious to me. I find it insufferable. I agree with his politics, but his heavy-handed way of presenting them is awful. And his characters are forced to speak essays that should be in the opinion pages of the Times, not coming out of the mouths of people. None of his characters feel like actual human beings to me.

I like his writing.

It's movie talk. Of course people don't talk like this in real life but who cares? It's supposed to dazzle.

But movie talk hasn't been this way in decades. It's a throwback to witty urbane banter that was popular in the 20's, 30's and 40's.

New generations who haven't grown up with it or have never been exposed to it would of course be thrown off.

Not saying that "Newsroom" is perfect. But it's definitely not terrible like people are saying. I'll admit it wants to be one of my favorite movies from the 80's, just through an idealistic, not realistic, lense. Maybe it'll get there one day.

I HATE Maggie!

Just stop!

The most unrealistic thing in the whole show is that anyone would find her appealing.

Totally agree, although somehow it still seemed to draw me in. I'll watch the current series.

How about 'Homeland'. Now that I am hooked on.

Don't get me started on Homeland. biggrin It is easily the dumbest show on TV. (But I love it anyway.)

Dumber than "Scandal", for which I'm addicted?

The opening to the entire series wanted to be a movie from the 70's...
