We all know very, very well by now that no one is ever going to stop talking about Miley Cyrus and what she did on that fateful night in New York in August. The remaining years of your life are going to be spent with all of your peers rhapsodizing endlessly about all the twerking and the tongue stuff and that legendary foam finger. Go ahead and get yourself comfortable with that thought, all right? And, if you need it, Cher is here to help you ease into it.

Cher gave not one, but two quotes recently about Miley, can you believe it? And she's pretty catty, too:

"I don't give a s--- if she comes out naked. Just be better, do better. Maybe she's thrilled and delighted—everyone's talking about it. And so, that's almost as good as it being great, you know. Especially kind of in this day and age. It doesn't make any difference if you're good. It just makes a difference if people are talking about it."

And -- brace yourself -- she also talked specifically about The Twerk right afterwards:

"I don't want to. I mean, I could if I wanted to. But, you know, if it looks like that I don't think I'm interested. I've seen other girls do it better."

So that's not too catty, right? Other girls have definitely twerked better, that's just a fact. But just wait till you hear what she said in the second interview:

"I'm not old-fashioned. She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl.' It just wasn't done well. She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out. And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated. If you're going to go that far, then think about it before you do it."

Dang, Cher, tell us how you really feel! On second thought, maybe don't -- the last thing we need is for that lone butt cheek to haunt our dreams for one more night.

Cher 'ashamed' of dissing Miley

When USA TODAY interviewed Cher about her new album, the 67-year-old diva had some choice words about Miley Cyrus' VMAs performance:

"I'm not old-fashioned. She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl.' It just wasn't done well. She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out. And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated."

Now that her words have been posted online, shared thousands of times and become the most current popular story on USA TODAY (seriously), Cher is tweeting out a sort-of-but-not-really apology to Miley Cyrus (whom Cher calls "Miley S").

Here's the gist of her expletive-laden stream of tweets, with randomly capitalized letters and interesting grammar choices:

"I'm a little ashamed," wrote Cher. "I didn't keep my big Opinionated mouth shut.... What I should have said (is) 'I didn't like (the performance) that much, but she's Pushing The Envelope,being an ARTIST. She's talented,& DIDNT COMMIT A FELONY. But somehow my ego had 2 get ITS 2 CENTS IN!"

She went on to tweet, "Ps this is Not an apology 4 what I Thought,its a Reminder,that if I don't practice my principles,I loose Them."

If only she could "turn back time"... (sorry, we had to).

I'm not surprised that Cher... backtrack is to strong of a word. My understanding is ol' school entertainers never criticized each other in public... not about music and/or performance. Cher probably should have expressed her blunt and honest point of view with Miley, face to face.

She should not have kept her mouth shut. People close to Miley, including her fans, are probably not being honest with her and telling her the performance was terrible. Everything she did looked forced and awkward.

This is why she should've just let it go. Now she backtracks? Jesus...

Cher probably regretted her tone... how she expressed her opinion publicly, to the media. I don't have a problem with her honesty but what is the objective of ripping someone? Are you just piling on or are truly being honest in the hopes of helping? Public tear downs usually don't achieve a better outcome, most folks get more defensive. Possible Cher regretted that.....

If Ms. Cyrus has any shred of self-awareness, she should know her performance was a hot mess and make amends she'll never again embarrass herself.

Well I guess Cher got her name in the middle of the conversation, then sweetens it before it gets too vicious. I guess that's the way you do it.

I wouldn't doubt it.

Fans seem to get some cockiness online especially if another artist doesn't quite agree with what their favorite artist is doing. Madonna never backed down when Gaga fans were threatening her. But I guess Cher's not made like that.
