i think any seismic activity is a worry, i visited nz years ago & remember hearing there is a massive volcano which could blow anytime & that it was long overdue. hope it's nothing to do with that!

no real drama

I think it was more the fright

hopefully it does ready the entire country because there seems to be a shocking lack of preperation for these type of events which we are prone too.

much more of a disaster is the Chch rebuild

buffoons rule, whilst thieves and gangsters make a fortune.

All good here. It knocked the froth of a few lattes though.

I live in Auckland and we don't really get quakes. Hopefully Wellington won't get a big one for a long time. Volcanos are the potential problem for Auckland but we've been ok for a out 500 years. We have about 50 volcanic cones around the city. See below for the most impressive. Don't let it put you off popping down for a visit.

Hope all are safe from this baby.

....speaking of bucketlists, one of mine will be crossed off in October as I arrive in Auckland and spend the best part of a month in this country.

Have a basic plan but if any locals can guide me to Must sees/do's then please do.

....daughter 11 has herself and I booked in for our first bungee jump off a bridge in Auckland within hours of landing....I'm a little concerned for her sanity...but I'll play along till we see a professional!

It certainly is from what scenes they show from the LOTR movies.

You should see the Hobbit special feature. They hardly did any CGI on the landscaping in the movie most of it was practical shots, it was breathe taking.

Well we've heard from one that I know of, I'm guessing the others are fine too...

From what the news showed, people acted like we do here, it usually takes a minute for them to react and usually unnerving but no real panick.

I wouldn't worry. There were only 4 injuries and Prince ain't that popular here so car accidents around the country would be a bigger concern. Though after Christchurch I would imagine those in Wellington will be feeling a bit jittery that there is more and bigger to come. Let's hope not.

He's fine. Only 4 people were injured in Wellington and he doesn't even live there.
