After all the disappointment with blockbusters for me

From The Avengers to Dark Knight Rises, from Man of Steel to Star Trek Into Darkness, from Prometheus to World War Z... all not so good for my tastes...

Finally Pacific Rim lives up to and exceeds the hype!

It really is the fun kid's movie that is so well constructed it works beyond...

and it's not part of a series, sequel, or reboot! And no stars to mess up the vibe!

I hope it slowly becomes a huge thing. It deserves it.

And I was so uninterested in it from the boring trailers. I love that too. I hate trailer hype that makes the movie better then it really is! This was quite the opposite.

I like all those movies you listed.

Now all the movies on your list are entertaining, but they weren't good film making.

Oddly enough, I had plan to skip this one. The trailer for Pacific Rim reminds me of Transformers.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

You make a great point here. The trailer's of "Pacific Rim" didn't impress me at all...until I saw Idris Elba (who is too sexy beyond words) so that's what sold me on checking out the movie.

Went to see it this weekend and didn't expect too much, but to my surprise, I actually loved it! It's been one of the best blockbuster action movies I've seen in recent years. nod

With that said, I'm sort of surprised it didn't reach number 1 this weekend...perhaps the lack of major movie stars? Idris said in one of his interviews that he was asked to do the role after Tom Cruise turned it down. Somehow, I truly believe that with Tom Cruise as Stacker Pentecost, the movie would have been a corny bust. And I actually like Tom Cruise but this wouldn't had fit him well.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

The trailers for this really don't sell the movie at all lol . A friend asked me to see this with him, so I pulled up the trailer to watch and I got nothing from them

If you will, so will I

Agreed. The trailer I've seen was not engrossing, but every review/personal opinion of it I've read has been very positive.

It was like gigantor/neon genesis evangelion/power rangers (when they make the big robot)/Battleship, Starship Ttroopers and Independence Day lol

It was really cool in that all the things you see in the trailer are a recap you get in the first 10 mins of the movie before the title even comes up. I liked it because for a change it's clear what is happening at all times (during Transformers I usually have no clue who is a deceptacon or an autobot dead ).

The robots are HUGE and cool and the dialogue isn't too complicated nutty

Obviously Rick Moranis was too old to be in this movie falloff

Don't get me wrong, the monsters and robots were cool and all...but the characters, acting and dialogue was utter shit. It was also terribly predictable, full of stereotypes and cliches.

For once it would be nice to see a movie like this with at least a little intelligence.

The cheese factor was way too high for my taste.

These were the "Russians".

3 chinese fighters, all nameless and one dimensional. First ones to die and without a remarkable fight.

The white guy, gets the Asian girl, who is instantly attracted to him, of course.

The actor playing the son is British. Was in the most popular British soap for a good while ( Eastenders )

From what I've been told this is an apt description of what happens in your bedroom only with the last line having the genders reversed... hmmm
