Refurbished Electronics Anyone???

So I was thinking of something to get myself for my birthday. Really the only thing I don't have that I kinda want is a blu-ray player. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for one. I saw some on walmart's website for reasonable prices but all of them have been refurbished. I have never purchased any refurbished electronics in the past. I read a couple of articles online where the authors actually recommended buying refurbished blu-ray players instead of brand new because refurbished products have to meet higher quality standards than something that's brand new?eek

Does anyone here have a refurbished player or have purchased refurbished electronics in the past? If so, what's been your experience?

I've bought lots of refurb with no problems. I tend to baby my stuff so I guess that helps. Recently I bought a Sony BX59 Bluray off ebay about 5 months ago for 60 bucks shipped refurb and it looked brand new, so far so good.

The iPad that I am writing this on, is refurbished. I saved some money, and it works like a "new one".

I would recommend getting an LG from WalMart. I got mine on Black Friday

for 39 dollars. I'm not sure what the retail price is now but i'm sure it isn't anymore

than 59. It plays pretty much all the formats. You can view photos. I even listen

to music i have downloaded to my flash drive. For about 30 dollars more you can get the

version that allows you to view Netflix movies, etc.

Though I have never owned refurbished goods, I was told they are better than the new ones because like the OP stated, they have to meet higher expectations in order to resell them. Don't know why.
