I used to think folks overstated how much better a fresh pineapple is over one that is shipped. LORD, was I walking in darkness! [Edited 7/14/13 10:29am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Dutch fresh strawberries are incredible. My parents live quite close to a farmer with strawberry fields. They are to die for. Like an orgasm in your mouth.

[Edited 7/14/13 6:44am] They grow quite large and they lose that meat tenderizing chemical that burns the tongue when they're left on the "vine" long enough to fully ripen so you can eat as much as you want. Nothing taste as good as a real vine ripened fruit everything else pales in comparison. Weirdly I love munching on the core of a pineapple.

Oh, okay. I've heard of persimmons. My mother, who was from Alabama, told me she used to pick them off the tree in AL. I've never had one. They don't sell them in stores around here. If it's anything like a plum, then I know I'd love it because I love plums. Cherries are another favorite of mine. Those great big dark red ones, almost black, are my favorite, although the reddish/yellow ones are good, too.
Watermelon is good, but I don't particularly care for those little round seedless ones. They don't have much flavor. Give me one of those old fashioned oblong ones with lots of seeds. They tend to be sweeter. I like to eat it ice cold with salt sprinkled over it. Cantaloupes and honeydews are good, but they cramp my stomach sometime.
When I was a kid growing up in New Jerdey, there was a mulberry tree growing at the playground. The berries were nice and sweet, but it's a messy tree. If the berries fell on a car, they would make a mess.
Blackberries are good if you can find them growing wild. Blueberries are not at all sweet fresh. Raspberries are a little tart to me, and the seeds are a nuisance. [Edited 7/16/13 10:06am]

Mmmmm...
I'm not a big fruit eater. Don't know why, just didn't grow up eating much so it didn't become a habit. And produce in the Chicago area is not really the best...
However, now I live in Portland, OR and the produce here is amazing. All this volcanic soil and rain? The peaches, raspberries, blueberries, and don't let's even get started on the delicious wine grapes that grow out here!!!
I don't know, but I never liked strawberries 'til I had some the native, only out for about four weeks (end of May 'til near end of June), Hood Strawberries!
They are so good, you can hurt yourself (literally) eating them by the pint. These are some I bought at our fabulous Beaverton Farmers Market. It's a paradise!

I love, love, LOVE water melons and strawberries. But the strawberries HAVE to be organic and from a strawberry farmer. Can´t stand the ones they sell at supermarkets.
