My boys are not good fruit eaters. It boggles my mind how someone could NOT like pineapples, watermelons, mangoes, and cherries.

They eat apples, strawberries, plums and bannanas. That's it.

So I was at the supermarket yesterday and I bought strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. I want to make one of those "parfait" things or something to get them to like it.

Anyone have any suggestions???

This year I'm eating a lot of blueberries and raspberries, which I've never done before. I'd really like to get ahold of a truly ripe pineapple but I'd have to go to hawaii for that, which is not in the cards right now. Melons (as well as a few of the standard summer fruits) have been barf going on a few years now. At this time I'm having a hard time knowing what all the summer fruit are unless I google it since many things seems to be in the store year round. I hold out for the white peaches and white nectrines, since the regular ones get picked to early to be as good and sweet as I remember. Overall, I'm not as excited about summer fruits as I use to be.

I used to think folks overstated how much better a fresh pineapple is over one that is shipped. LORD, was I walking in darkness! disbelief lol

I visited Hawaii a couple years ago. Haven't found a pineapple since that even approaches what I experienced there. drool

Dutch fresh strawberries are incredible. My parents live quite close to a farmer with strawberry fields. They are to die for. Like an orgasm in your mouth.

nod They grow quite large and they lose that meat tenderizing chemical that burns the tongue when they're left on the "vine" long enough to fully ripen so you can eat as much as you want. Nothing taste as good as a real vine ripened fruit everything else pales in comparison. Weirdly I love munching on the core of a pineapple.

Never heard of sharon fruit. What is it and where does it come from?

i can't post a pic for some reason..

i think it's proper name is persimmon fruit. It says from south africa on the packet i have.. far too exotic to be grown in the UK lol

they are absolutely delicious, there is no core so the whole fruit can be eaten.

texture like plum, for me it tastes a bit like melon... i can't get enough of them.

Oh, okay. I've heard of persimmons. My mother, who was from Alabama, told me she used to pick them off the tree in AL. I've never had one. They don't sell them in stores around here. If it's anything like a plum, then I know I'd love it because I love plums. Cherries are another favorite of mine. Those great big dark red ones, almost black, are my favorite, although the reddish/yellow ones are good, too.

Watermelon is good, but I don't particularly care for those little round seedless ones. They don't have much flavor. Give me one of those old fashioned oblong ones with lots of seeds. They tend to be sweeter. I like to eat it ice cold with salt sprinkled over it. Cantaloupes and honeydews are good, but they cramp my stomach sometime.

When I was a kid growing up in New Jerdey, there was a mulberry tree growing at the playground. The berries were nice and sweet, but it's a messy tree. If the berries fell on a car, they would make a mess.

Blackberries are good if you can find them growing wild. Blueberries are not at all sweet fresh. Raspberries are a little tart to me, and the seeds are a nuisance.

And why must it be fruit? My favorite is corn.

lol And if you really want to get technical. Tomatoes are a fruit not a veggie. I love a homegrown big beefsteak tomato eaten right off the vine like an apple with a little salt. When I was growing up in New Jersey, my daddy had a garden and grew the biggest, prettiest tomatoes you'd ever want to see. I try to do the same growing mine in pots, but they just don't taste the same. sad

Mmmmm... smile

I'm not a big fruit eater. Don't know why, just didn't grow up eating much so it didn't become a habit. And produce in the Chicago area is not really the best...

However, now I live in Portland, OR and the produce here is amazing. All this volcanic soil and rain? The peaches, raspberries, blueberries, and don't let's even get started on the delicious wine grapes that grow out here!!!

I don't know, but I never liked strawberries 'til I had some the native, only out for about four weeks (end of May 'til near end of June), Hood Strawberries!

They are so good, you can hurt yourself (literally) eating them by the pint. These are some I bought at our fabulous Beaverton Farmers Market. It's a paradise!

Yes, lawd! They are soooo good, espcially right off the vine. I don't see many grape vines around houses anymore. When I was growing up, folk used to have them everywhere. That is one thing I truely miss.

I love, love, LOVE water melons and strawberries. But the strawberries HAVE to be organic and from a strawberry farmer. Can´t stand the ones they sell at supermarkets.

I just made a medley of pineapple, ataulfo mangoes, white peaches, latundan bananas, kiwis and blueberries, the youngsters put some vanilla yogurt and granola on theirs, not my thing but OK.
