What is your Primary Computer?
don't really miss it. I don't like the way you can't upgrade laptops easily, but I've learned to sort of deal with it. These days, I don't do any power-computing anyways, and even lower end PCs tend to have enough power to do most 'normal' things. retina, because I love my iPod Touch 5th Gen, and have come to realize that I do very little 'computing' outside of consumer computing these days.

This thread has nothing to do with computers. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I use a Macbook (laptop). I used to have an iMac (desktop computer), and eventually I wanted to be able to compute in different rooms, so I got a laptop and Wi-Fi modem. I'm on my iPhone more than any previous mobile phone or computer.

MacBook for personal use. IBM ThinkPad for work. Often, I carry both with me. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I have two laptops. A Clevo running Windows 7 on a Intel Core 2 Duo chip, and an Acer Aspire running Windows 8 on an Intel i5 chip. Both have 4GB of RAM. The Acer is connected to an external monitor, so I have three screens around me in my home office.
When I'm out and about I carry my tablet (Nexus 7) and my phone (Nexus 4). |

I have a cell phone and a desktop. I primarily use the cell phone because I'm running out of space on the desktop

Most of it happens on my smart phone....occasionally i will connect it to a laptop or desktopg(belonging to someone else) to move larger amounts of data. My 25 dollar 32 gig sdcard helps me not have to transfer music files off of my 1.5 terabyte ext. HD helps. I just reeeeealy hate the touchscreen keyboard.

damn that's a difficult question to answer... straight-up.
At the moment its my old '06 Compaq Persario desktop because Linux Mint 15 is damn near perfect, and I haven't completed "full-proofing" my other computers (notebooks) from the prying eyes and ears of the NSA. I do different things on different computers/devices; at this point, I can't live without my iPad and touch 5g. I don't think I'll ever ditch using a desktop because you can upgrade the box yourself. I have plans to learn how to take a notebook apart and see if I can put it back together and have it actually work!

I got a macpro, it's probably 4 years old and is really dragging its heels noticeably when I'm doing complex illustrator stuff. Saving my files can take 2 minutes. I got an iPad but the kids use it most. Mostly I'm on my iPhone. I'm the mistake you wanna make

Time to switch-out the HDD or reinstall is seems... go with the 7400 rpm HDD and up your RAM since you do a lot of illustration stuff. OR it maybe time for a new computer or you can come on over to Linux...

It really depends on the task. If you're really into creating a digital lifestyle, I feel you need several computers.
For casual internet and email browsing...my ipad and smartphone works very well.
For video/music editing, photoshop, graphics, scanning, CD/Video ripping, etc...my super desktop/tower is a must!
My laptop is great for finishing major projects "wherever." I'm not tied to my desk if I want to complete a project.
I'm really into scanning and archiving every important piece of paper, documents, pictures, kids report cards & artwork, letters, articles...you name it. I love having it all in one place and backed-up on several external drives of course.

I have 4gb ram, but only small internal HD, I'm forced to work off external drives with only applications and system on the internal. It's dual quadcore processors or something lol I probably won't put anything new in it, it's of the age where things start to fail. I'm the mistake you wanna make

Yes, yes, I second that - come over to Linux
The Linux name for what you're using is "Inkscape" - have fun!

Linux Mint 15 should be number 1 but anywho...
As dominator2010 said Inkscape is waiting for ya.
You can breath some new life into that MacPro.

and printers are happy to receive files from Inkscape? they all want CS
I'm the mistake you wanna make

That's a good question; I don't see why not, I'd give it a whurl though. I'll be able to tell in the near future, I should be able to tell... I'm working on something now. Just for fun.

What are the specs / model of your Dell dekstop?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You can test out Inkscape's printing without installing anything - download and try the Dynebolic live CD from www.dynebolic.org (or even better, PAY for a branded copy). Be warned, it's quite dated though, so if they've added printing facilities to Inkscape since then, you won't have that on your CD. You can also try asking the question on a site like www.linuxforums.com .

by printers I mean printing companies sorry I wasn't clear. I'm the mistake you wanna make

My question would be do any print/design professionals use it? Do printing/pre-press suppliers accept files from these formats? (I'm guessing no since their specs usually stipulate CS) I'm sure Inkscape can PDF in CMYK and spot colours, but a lot of the time they also ask for native files. I'm the mistake you wanna make

old school here....desktop.My wife n kids have the ipads and iphones. I hooked up an external harddrive to my desktop and am happy as a clam on it. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Nah, I understood what you meant... and that's still a good question.
