NFL: Patriots' Star Aaron Hernandez's Home Searched After Killing Investigators searched the North Attleborough home of New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez today following the killing of a man police call an "associate" of Hernandez, ABC News has learned. Massachusetts State Police and prosecutors arrived at Hernandez's $1.3 million, 5,600-square foot home, which is outfitted with a home gym and a swimming pool, just before 5 p.m. and spent hours with him inside the mansion. Two Hernandez friends tried to leave house at the time of the search, but they were stopped by a state police car at the end of driveway. Crime scene investigators later searched the car the men tried to leave in. During the search, Hernandez received a hand-delivered package from the prominent law firm Ropes and Gray around 7:30 p.m., with the deliveryman telling reporters swarming the sidewalk outside that it was addressed to "Mr. Hernandez himself." Hernandez was initially uncooperative with police after the body of a 27-year-old man was found in an industrial park not far from the Patriots player's home, two law enforcement sources said.

from ABC News;
New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is now the subject of an arrest warrant on obstruction of justice charges based on the possible destruction of evidence in connection with the shooting death of his friend, ABC News has learned. Police sources told ABC News on Thursday that a major investigative tool – the security system at Hernandez's home, which included video – had been intentionally destroyed. His cell phone was handed over to police "in pieces," and appeared to have been smashed. Police also want to know why a team of house cleaners were hired on Monday to scrub Hernandez's mansion, the sources said. Evidence is mounting that Hernandez and the victim, Odin Lloyd, 27, a semi-pro football player, had been together at several nightclubs during the course of the weekend, including the night before Lloyd's body was found, several law enforcement sources told ABC News. The star NFL player has not been ruled out as a suspect in the murder of a semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, 27, who was Hernandez's friend, sources said, but the warrant that has been issued does not include a murder allegation. Hernandez has been at the center of the investigation since Lloyd's body was found shot in the back of the head in a scrubby clearing of an industrial park roughly a mile from the Patriots star's $1.7 million mansion in North Attleborough, Mass., on Monday. Lloyd was believed to have been killed sometime before dawn on Monday, although his body was not discovered until Monday evening by a teenage jogger. Surveilance videos from nightclubs and in the area of Hernandez's home show Hernandez, Lloyd and two other men together in the hours before Lloyd was shot in the head. Police are also investigating "other incidents of violence" that Hernandez is suspected of being involved in, two sources told ABC News. Hernandez is being sued by a former friend who lost his eye after he claims the Patriots player shot him in the face in February. A lawsuit in that case stated that Hernandez "possessed a gun he was not legally licensed to have." In the lawsuit initially filed in federal court on June 13, attorneys representing Alexander Bradley, 32, said that Hernandez and several others were at Tootsie's strip club in Miami on Feb. 13 when Bradley and Hernandez got into an argument. The group then left the club, and while driving towards Palm Beach, Hernandez's gun discharged inside the vehicle. "It fired, and a bullet went through my client's arm and blew out his right eye," attorney David Jaroslawicz told ABCNews.com. "It has been enucleated -- replaced with a prosthetic eye. He has also lost use of his right arm." The victim, however, apparently did not tell Palm Beach County sheriffs who responded that the shooter was his friend Aaron Hernandez. The tight end's name is not mentioned on the police report. Hernandez was also questioned about a shooting when he was a college student, but he was not charged in the case.

A second man has been arrested: The Hartford Courant said Wednesday that 27-year-old Carlos Ortiz was arrested by cops in Bristol, Conn., and arraigned right away. The newspaper said Ortiz had been charged with "being a fugitive from justice." He had been on probation, and he had a probation hearing scheduled for Wednesday. Ortiz's record includes past arrests for larceny and criminal mischief, but he's being held on $1.5 million bail, and he waived extradition to Massachusetts. A judge has sealed all records connected to his case.

Prosecutors: Bubblegum, texts among trail of evidence in Hernandez's caseupdated 7:48 AM EDT, Fri June 28, 2013
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
(CNN) -- Something Odin Lloyd may have done or said didn't sit well with NFL player Aaron Hernandez, prosecutors say. Two days later, they allege, the football player rounded up some friends and settled the score. Lloyd's body was found at a Massachusetts gravel pit near Hernandez's North Attleborough home in mid-June, according to investigators. He was fatally shot with a .45 caliber firearm. Hernandez faces premeditated murder charges and has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege the former tight end with the New England Patriots orchestrated the hit and carried it out with another man. The Patriots dismissed him from the team and ended his multimillion-dollar contract. Cell phone records and surveillance camera tapes will link him to the killing and retrace the final moments of Lloyd's life in the wee hours of Monday, June 17, the prosecution says. And a trail of blue bubblegum colorfully shows Hernandez's path that night, according to prosecutors. Police return to Hernandez's home But the defense says the evidence does not add up. "It is a circumstantial case. It is not a strong case," defense attorney Michael Fee said. Massachusetts State Police said they are seeking another man as an "accessory after the fact." Hernandez is also being investigated in connection with an unsolved 2012 double homicide case in Boston, a law enforcement source close to the investigation told CNN.
How it started Over the weekend, Lloyd and Hernandez had a run-in, prosecutors allege. They had met up at the popular Boston dance club, RumoR, according to Lloyd's sister, Olivia Thibou. Lloyd, a semipro football player who also worked as a landscaper, was dating the sister of Hernandez' s fiancee. In predawn hours Monday, Hernandez swung by Lloyd's home to pick him up in a rented silver Nissan Altima, prosecutors say. At some point, two other passengers ended up in the car with them. They stopped at a gas station and made a purchase. But one that sticks out as evidence -- a pack of blue bubblegum. Prosecutors say that cell phone towers nearby tracked the men's movements. Lloyd had his phone on and texted his sister at 3:23 a.m., very likely minutes before his death. "NFL. Just so you know," he texted his sister to let her know who he was with. About 3:25 a.m. -- two minutes after the message -- gunshots shattered the quiet night, according to witnesses.
Hernandez and a gun Not five minutes passed before a surveillance camera captured video of Hernandez carrying a gun as he arrived back at his home, prosecutors say. He was with two other people. Lloyd was not among them. A murder weapon is usually a key piece of evidence in a homicide case, and investigators have not been able to turn one up. But Hernandez at least once had a Glock .45, prosecutors say, entering a cell phone photo into evidence of him posing in the mirror with it. And police have seized .45 caliber ammunition and an ammunition magazine that were in a Hummer SUV he drove and a condo he rented.
Bubble gum evidence Hernandez and the other two later took the car back to the rental company. There, the defendant offered an attendant a piece of blue Bubblicious, prosecutors say. What appeared to be a piece of chewed blue gum was left lying inside the vehicle, prosecutors say. Next to it was a fired.45-caliber casing. It matches the empty shells Investigators recovered near Lloyd's body, prosecutors say. If that gum was in Hernandez's mouth, DNA tests will connect him to the casings, prosecutors say. When investigators inspected Lloyd's body, they found keys in his pockets to a rental car registered in Hernandez's name.
From the NFL to county jail The former pro football player awaits trial in a county jail, after the judge denied him bail. He has been "polite and cooperative" the sheriff says. He seems at ease. But Hernandez has had some difficulty with one thing, Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson said. Trading in the glory of jersey number 81 for the impersonal feel of a prisoner's serial number.
