They'd only be able to use my native files if they run Inkscape themselves unless they could be opened by illustrator.

Is there an InDesign equivalent that can handle 500+ page documents seamlessly with Inkscape?

I use a Dell laptop for work and at home. My work one was just refreshed this year and it suits i'ts purpose.

I need a new laptop for home as this one's starting to get sluggish and it's about 5 years old. Maybe 6... However I've been laptop shopping and I don'y like any. I guess I'm too picky. I want it to be light and stylish and I'm kind cheap, so I don't want to pay an arm and a leg.

And I hate Windows 8 and you can't find anything anymore without it. So I end up buying nothing and then a few months later I start looking again and have the same problem.

I guess I'm a dinosaur. I'm using an older Dell desk top. This bitch is so freakin slow. I know I will probably buy a new laptop when I finally get around to replacing this beast. I don't have a smart phone and don't want one. I prefer to do all my computer surfing at home.

Checkout WalMart or eBay... you can still find Win OS 7 on new and refurbished computers. I think the Win OS 7 have to be ordered online. For several months Walmart sold an ASUS that was light wieght and cute but did have Win OS 8 though. I'd checkout Walmart, the are begining to sale refurbished computers too. I can't stand WIn OS 8, somehtings going to have to change before I every use that OS. lol

You're a PRIME CANDIDATE for Linux then. Put Xubuntu on it, or say, BodhiLinux (Google them) and start having the time of your life smile

No I don't mind! Pretty much all my stuff is print based. I'm a graphic designer/art director with my own business.
Educational text books and resources mainly, magazine publishing in the past which I'd love to do again.

If you take a look at www.magicwords.com.au - all the products they sell are put together on my old computer. biggrin

Ever cared to venture into web design?

Oh, and another software, if you choose to venture into Linux, is Scribus. Check it out!

Currently I am without a computer.

My laptop took a crap and I haven't been able to replace it...so technically my work desktop is my "primary" computer and my kids' laptops are my secondary computers.

I wanted to get another desktop simply because...well...my old DELL lasted me 10 freakin' years. In fact it's still working and if I had the inclination to upgrade it I probably could get it back running.

But being as how laptops are so convenient (and relatively inexpensive) I probably will get another laptop as my "primary".

shrug

Win / OS, XP3?

What are the specs / model of your Dell dekstop?

It's from 2000 (damn, 13 years ago!) so I'm pretty sure it's Windows XP.

That's all I remember.

Worked just fine up until I left the house (even though it was slow as molasses with all the new web stuff).

I have the tower and the monitor. The keyboard is somewhere.

Just one more thing, to anyone who is creative and is reading this - Krita is another software for doing art, I *just* used it, and I think it deserves being taken out for a spin. It's available by default in the latest Kubuntu, 13.04, which is where I used it. ZombieK, see if this serves your needs! smile
