Impulsive Behavior

I blew through $800 in 2 days on broads and gambling. It''s hard controlling these addictions, now that Im earning a income.I got to discuss this with my DR on Tuesday. The rush is exciting, but once it''s over, you feel deflated and like shit. It''s a terrible feeling, then you bounce back. It''s like a drug.

I see a pretty girl advertised online and I have to get that.

I go to grocery store to buy a sandwich and wound up buying $100 worth of scratch off lottery tickets.

The casinoes are the worst.I cant take that road trip to AC with my brother and sister.

You have ZERO self control... Work on THAT and you will be fine... Use your brain and instead of acting on impulse work it out in your head... give yourself a certain amount of time... 5 minutes even, before you can react... sit there and THINK about consequences of your actions and if what you are about to do is really worth it..Stop acting like a spoiled child who should get everything because you want it and start acting like a grown man...

Addiction. Plenty of support groups and online resources to help if you need/want it.

Totally agree with Conscious Contact and completely disagree with Tinaz: from what you've described, you clearly have an addictive personality, and all the attempts to "gain self control" aren't going to work until you address the addiction.

Trust me, I know from experience - 12 step groups work.

I also agree with this. Relying on self-control does not work. Changing habits can help. Avoid the sites that have escort ads. Shop at supermarkets rather than convenience stores so you don't come face to face with the scratchies.

Can you tell when your compulsive episodes are coming on? Talk to your doc about strategies for when you are faced with these compulsions.

Sorry to hear this, maybe it's time to get some help controling those impulses.

I think everybody agrees with you, but don't choose to put it like you. What you said, for sure is what the OP should tell himself. Not necessarily other people tho'.

In fact, it is probably not up to others to tell the OP what the should tell himself. However well intended. And if the OP is suffering psychiatricly perhabs it is even better to not tell so at all.

I told my DR today. She said close your eyes and imagine a $20 bill on fire. That''s scatch off tickets, money burning to waste. It didn''t convince me.

Now I have to convince myself not to see the DR next week, because my money and insurance are going to waste.I need some new orthopedic shoes.

I'm an impulse buyer.

I go to the supermarket to get a gallon of milk and walk out with $50.00 worth of stuff.

I recently went to Target to get a shower curtain, and walked out with three bags.

sigh

I don't gamble because I'm too cheap for that. Just throwing away my hard-earned cash without anything in return? Nope. Not for me.
At least if I waste my cash at Target I walk out with all sorts of "stuff".

When my friends and I were younger a group of us would go to target and shop together on weekends. we'd go down every freaking aisle, peruse the endcaps and spend hours there. The winner was the person who came out spending the least.

Omg I would have won. lol or maybe not, I definitely have shopping days and other days NOTHING appeals to me. I went to buy deodorant yesterday and that's all I got. I was lucky I even got any at all because the brand I wanted wasn't on sale mad but sometimes all it takes that one purchase to break the seal and soften the plastic and suddenly the sun shines and the fluoro lights in the changing rooms aren't THAT harsh and voila, 3 bags full.
