After enduring through years of Prince's drug filled escapades,

it's nice to tune in and get some wholesome American fun

again.

The new Superman was ok.

The fight scenes are really good--the problem is that,

much like Prince's rampant drug use, the fight scenes

are so frequent and over-the-top that after a while you

get numb to them.

Henry Cavill is the best of all the Supermans. There, I

said it. And the new General Zod is really good too. He's

not as camp as the one in Superman II, and a bit more

fleshed out.

However, the movie explains way to much of the character

motivations and emotional investments through dialogue.

For a super-hero movie, (or any movie for that matter),

this is a big mistake.

And there was just too much action in some scenes.

I mean by the time I saw the hundreth explosion

and the second sky-rise toppling, I actually bursted

out laughing at the audience.

Like, Prince tripping out on acid, parts of this movie

are a sensory overload.

Thumbs Down.

Man of Steel was slowly turned from promising energy into a CG tentacled, particle procedural showcasing, ludicrous mess with Lois Lane appearing at every action environment. Any kind of drama or building of story split apart just like Krypton.

We were cracking up at things like Lois appearing in the bomber plane or the train station (and that Christ pose when Superman leaves the ship facing his dad was hilariously heavy ham handed) and getting bored with what amounted to ineffectual, illogical endless fights that were boring.

i think the first truly big laugh came when Lois is seen going Lord of the Rings style around the ice cliff at night.

I know I cracked up at the moment when two organic mountain sized jackhammers are pounding the Earth killing thousands of people, and Lois is smiling (when Superman is telling her to back up a bit more). She's not even stressed out in the least.

So on that note, we ended the night joking that the movie should have even gone beyond the silly Clark Kent disguise scene (in movie that has dispensed with the comic theatrical sort of reality in which such a disguise concept can work). It should have shown that Jor-El was able to download himself into the copier at the Daily Planet, in a semi dysfunctional state as he tries to rewrite himself. In subsequent moments of global threat, Clark will make an excuse to go make copies and actually get his advice from the copier in the form of short LED messages and paper jams.

I thought I was the only one who found all the Lois Lane scenes HILARIOUS!!! falloff

And, what's up with the new Lois Lane? Margot Kidder could beat her ass!

I mean, this new Lois is like the girlfriends that you end up with as

a rebound because the girl you really love dumped you. She's all

too willing to be impressed by you, and it's a bit...too easy.

nod The movie sucked big time. They didn't even let you get attached to Supes before the chaos began. There was no reason for him and Lois to fall in love, there were way too many over the top fight scenes... Supes was just throwing Zod thru buildings with rampant disregard for the humans that he is supposed to be protecting. Utter Bullshit! At different times I felt like it was Lord of the Rings, Transformers, Independence Day, the Matrix or effing Thor!

Dude was a hottie though.....not as cute nor anywhere near as charming as my baddy daddy Chris Reeve, but he was appropriatley hot.

I agree with you guys unfortunately.

Another question to me is now that this movie is going to be a big hit and a jump start to a DC Universerse of films, how are they going to explain how no other superhero responded to all that wanton destruction on Earth? Where they all off planet or something?

Before I start in, I will say, the Man of Steel franchise just can't win. It's either too boring or too busy. It was no less CGI-cluttered than Iron Man 3, though The Avengers was much more balanced on that front (granted they'd taken 4-5 movies to get it just right).

I did like Man of Steel, but it had some issues.

The origin story was a really good one; I did connect with Clark's story, which felt genuine. They got around the identity issue, it just makes sense to bond Lois and Clark over his "secret." Keeping Jor-El involved throughout was a good move.

I enjoyed most of the performances. Cavill carries the role well. I thought Michael Shannon was as good as I thought he'd be. illimack is right though, the Lois-Clark thing felt very forced.

They simply allowed CGI to get in the way in the 3d Act. It wasn't "layered" in the typical Nolan style, it was disjointed and WAAAAY too messy. I know superhuman beings will cause damage but there was so much destruction it distracted from the battles.

There are parallels to Batman Begins. The hero is outnumbered and has to darn near destroy the city to beat the villains. On the next go-round, The Dark Knight, less was definitely more as Nolan set up a more compelling and personal duel with the #1 nemesis.

I see a great setup for a more compelling sequel, which Man of Steel will probably get. Who they select to portray Lex Luthor will make all the difference.

I doubt DC and/or WB will get a Justice League franchise going. They have done so much to preserve individual franchises, and the talent hasn't wanted to be involved with a crossover project. Marvel and Disney nailed it; they had a plan from the outset. If Nolan is involved with both Supes and Batman there is hope, but they may have lost their window.

Let's have a Man of Steel movie where there's no threat, so it's one where it's only Clark Kent, and no "destruction porn"... now that would be original! lol

BEST SUPERMAN MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what people were expecting, but it seems that Superman fans are extremely fickle and there is no pleasing them. I LOVED every minute of this movie!!! This is the Superman movie I have been waiting 45 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG years for.

I am a HUGE fan of the Superman Animated series of the 90's and they pulled HUGE amounts of reference from the cartoon! And since the Batman/Superman animated series were so great, it was refreshing that they would decide to base the new reboot off of such a great show!

I guess nowadays, it is too easy to nitpick movies, as opposed to appreciating them for what they are. The action was amazing! The fight scenes were EPIC! The destruction was SUPER! It made sense, from a real world point of view, that super beings could create such destruction. It drives the point home, that Superman is needed to combat this destruction.

Everyone in this movie gave Ocscar worthy performances! Henry was AMAZING, just for having the intelligence to actually look BIG and muscular, like Superman should look!!! Russell Crowe did not bore me like he has in other movies. Kevin Costner is a great actor, PERIOD! Amy Adams showed what kind of work a true investigative reporter would actually do. My expectations were so low after the hot mess that was 'Superman Returns,' that this movie BLEW ME OUT OF THE WATER!!!

I have seen it 4 times in theaters, and no matter what anyone else says, this movie was FAR SUPERIOR to the Avengers. I love the Avengers, but Man Of Steel raised the bar to a whole new level. If they play their set up of Brainiac and Lex Luthor correctly (like the animated series), the sequels will only get bigger and better!!!

I wish I had two more hands, so I can give this movie 4 thumbs up!!! thumbs up! thumbs up! thumbs up! thumbs up!

Tell me, do you bleed? You will!

I've seen Man Of Steel this past Wednesday (6/19/2013). I like it a thumbs up! mostly for the action scenes.

But in terms of interpretation, I have mixed opinons about the way the Superman mythos were remixed AND rebooted. hmmm Excuse me, but the dark and gritty style that worked for Batman (up to a point) and James Bond (definitely!) should have NEVER been used to such a extreme for Superman.

I think there was more of a "perspective" than "interpretation" on this story. We're used to seeing Superman from the perspective of other humans around HIM, but this story was told more from the perspective of HIM around US. There were little tiny elements that tied his story and mythos together. We knew that his costume is indestructible because it was made from the cloth they found him in as a baby, but Snyder and Nolan went deeper than that. This story was VERY well put together. I would say it's almost....biblical.
