What's in YOUR Coffee?

Breaking Down Your Cup of Coffee

What’s really inside your morning cup of joe?

Sure, The Daily Meal staff probably collectively drinks 50 cups of coffee a week, but we never really bothered to find out what’s in it (other than caffeine and maybe a shot of vanilla syrup and some milk).

Turns out, most of coffee is water (well, so, we knew that), but the rest? Long, complicated chemicals like 2-Ethylphenol, which has a tar-like odor and is actually a cockroach pheromone that warns other cockroaches of danger. Not exactly appetizing, but if your pantry has tons of coffee maybe you won’t have any cockroaches in your house.

The good stuff, on the other hand, includes acetylmethylcarbinol, a component of butter, which gives the coffee a “buttery” taste. Trigonelline gives coffee an earthy taste, and also fights cavity-causing bacteria, and caffeine of course gives your brain a boost of energy. Not to mention, coffee is also an antioxidant.

Wait...are we talking about the components in flavored creamers, or additives to ground coffee itself???

I always assumed that ground coffee consisted of JUST that - GROUND COFFEE BEANS.

If not...I'm going to start buying coffee beans and grind them myself!!!

for me .. i like my coffee with cinnamin ...

and creamer .... just alil ...

i like the cinnabon creamer mmm alil too sweet for a lot of people purrhaps ...

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

I am weird: i get whole bean coffee and grind it daily (but it is normal brand name nothing special)

but then i use generic Selinda and generic power creamer...

I'm drinking a lot less coffee lately. Seems to make me gassy. When I do drink it, though, I take it with lots of cream, no sugar.

That´s what I always do. Tastes much better and keeps the coffee fresh.
