BBC/PBS series: Call the Midwife

midwife

I love this show. It makes me all gushy inside. It just ended it's 2nd season. I'm almost caught up on it's 1st season. They seem to deal with a wide range of issues, with tact and gentleness.

Based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth; the story follows twenty-two year old Jenny, who in 1957 leaves her comfortable home to become a midwife in London's East End slums. She expects to find a hospital, and is surprised to find that the clinic is a convent: Nonnatus House. Working alongside her fellow nurses and the medically-trained nuns, Jenny has her eyes opened to the harsh living conditions. But she also discovers the warm hearts and the bravery of the mothers; each one a heroine in Jenny's eyes.

Our PBS station seemed like its been begging for money for about a month so I haven't tuned into the network. I wonder if these series is on-line at their website, I'll check it out.

Netflix has the 1st season. I'd imagine Hulu Plus shows current the episodes a few weeks after they air. I haven't checked yidio.

Love this show. Between it and Mr. Selfridge, my Sunday evenings were toast for a couple of months. lol

In my next play, I get to play a very Lady Mae-ish (Mr. Selfridge) sort of character. I cannot WAIT! drool

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I like Mr Selfridge too. It's funny looking at a full-blooded stylish Chicago American in posh England.

.

Lady Mae the socialite. Do you get the boy-toy too? I hear the actress who protraits her isn't coming back for the 2nd season, too bad, I liked her too.

.

.

.

Call the Midwife is just so emotional though, and some of the things they deal with almost seem shocking given the time period especially when you have nuns involved.
