From what I understand...and how I rationalize my willingness to "believe" in this...has to do with the fact that the Earth is on an elliptical rotation around the sun.
The sun emits a variety of waves of energy towards us, along with other waves of energy that other bodies in the cosmos bombard the earth with along the way.
SO...people born in the middle of July were in the womb at a certain point in the earth's rotation 9 months prior (and so on) thereby allowing certain levels of whatever to affect the developing fetus.

Of course there are mystical aspects of this...which if you don't believe in the mystical aspects of nature then it's all just hogwash for you anyway...but still & all it's fascinating.
