Movie The Purge

One night a year nothing is illegal.

In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity-including murder-becomes legal. The police can't be called. Hospitals suspend help. It's one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When an intruder breaks into James Sandin's (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide. Written by Universal Pictures

The comments have been interesting. Such a scenerio would be insane.

From what I've read, it's suppose to be a very near perfect society due to this one night a year. It is a weird concept open to a lot of questions.

I've just seen the trailer for it today. Interesting, if unbelievable premise.

I don't know how much disbelief you would have to suspend. I mean in the Hunger Games people willing sent their children off to kill each for other's entertainment to maintain peace. If the mentality changes, I think a lot of things are possible.

.

.

Finally, saw the trailer, I think I see what they're getting at, I just think it may be too uncomfortable of a premise for people to absorb.

"Written by Universal Pictures"? No one wants to take credit for writing this movie?

That can't be a good sign.

I read the plot synopsis on Wikipedia. While some might like this kind of movie, I can tell you right now that I most definitely would not.

When I saw the trailer versus just reading the premise I saw that it basically turned into a home invasion lets kill everybody thing, a cheap thriller. A lot of review say it fell short of really developing a story.

WHAT A FUCKING WASTE!!!!

My friend has free tickets to the movie so we went to a midnigth screening. Man forget the concept of the movie it is another run of the mill slasher flick and becomes more like The Strangers part 2.

''spoilers''

Basically they have a guy come in the house who is running from these people in mask... and so the rest of the movie becomes an ''omg they are trying to come in our heavy security infused home''

And the bad guys are stupid! once they realize the family has guns they do very stupid thing's yet they are supposed to be smart villains.

They have this concept of murder being legal for one entire night and it turns into a run of the mill slasher flick... and for it being a chaotic night doesn't seem much else is going on with other peoples families lol

the film wasn’t too interested in exploring that shite in the premise or even HOW the Purge came to be.

AND there was a rebellios teen daugher in the mix... meh.

He is good in the movie... that was one good thing about it lol

I think after having huge success with Sinister last year he is going the horror movie route.

I can't believe it topped the box office this weekend, despite everything. I'm not going though, I thought it was something else, I'm not a slash and thrill fan.
