Terrorist attacks and natural disasters notwithstanding...the Dalai Lama is correct. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I don't think the Dalai Lama is wrong here. Some of us seem to consider peace of mind as a sort of interior weather condition at any given time. It it perhaps rather like an interior climate. That is to say, certainly crisis moments will throw all of us -- Dalai Lama included. But even the worst of these needn't necessarily upset our long-term disposition toward life, etc. To the extent they do, we have allowed it to a good extent. There are those who suffer immensely in their lives, yet retain a remarkable inner peace. At the same time, I hope the Dalai Lama's counsel here is geared toward encouraging personal agency and not toward rendering the suffering of others as something we can slough off as a matter they should "just get over." Let me put things in perspective here. In 1950, that is 63!years ago, this man, the spiritual leader of his people, was chased out of his home country and has been in exile ever since, watching Tibet being slowly strangled to death by the Chinese. He's travelled the world and hear everybody say, yes, we respect you very much, but we can't help you. People in Tibet burn themselves to death and the Chinese government blames the Dalai Lama for it. Now if in spite all of this, the Dalai Lama still refuses to be bitter...

O.K. This is how it works for me; If I center myself before I leave the house and talk to anyone, then I can maintain mental and spiritual control no matter who I encounter. But, it I don't take time out for myself regularly and at the start of the day, most definately instigators and argumentative people can get to me. i agree.
for me i have to be centered or have a center , which is my faith.
This life is a world wind of ups and downs. highs and lows. You will never escape the way the world turns. But its at the lows that allow u to come face to face with ur believes and how low ur gonna go . For me i think is all in how u pick urself up. The core of who u r relies on it.
If it wasnt for my "center" i would b a nervous wreck 24/7. I mean all u have to do is go on the internet and turn on the tv. No need to walk out the door to find the tragic state of this planet!!
Having said that.....i do get the quote"Only YOU can disturb your peace of mind." in the sense of: when bad things happen how are you going to go on with a peace of mind? And how are u gonna in turn give that peace of mind to others who face tragity?

I was on Greyhound bus on Tuesday and the woman next to me handed me a book. She said she felt like God wanted her to bring the book on this trip with her even though she read it 3 times. She said that she felt God wanted her to hand me the book.
The title of the book was "If Satan Can't Steal Your JOy....He Can't keep Your Goods"
Now I am not one of those demon hating Satan hating folks.
But I read the book and whether or not u believe in Satan, you most likely believe in possitive vs Negative energy. You can believe that they attract one another in all things. If you are doing something possitive, you're going to get some negative responses. Someone will come along to steal your JOY. There will be someone who will tell you that you are not being practical or leval headed etc.
I don't look at it as Satan per se. I just look at it as an adversary, someone to hold my ground against. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

What about - never mind what peace u disturb just as long as u get your message across Or is that a recipe for disaster mailto:www.iDon'tThinkSo.com.Uranus

yes! THAT IS a receipe for disaster ...wanna know why ? [according to my belief system]...... CUZ IN ALL THINGS .. I BELIEVE u need to use wisdom. There is a time and place for everything. In otherwords: Timing is everything! If u indeed seek ur "message" getting across. If u dont give a shit than come what may right? then...its all about u. ur motives and in the end u will just have u.

Yes, timing is everything. Also I believe in instincts along with reason. Use them both. Sometimes people are complete jerks, just because they are having a rough day, or they have a sarcastic personality. It is not about you. However, other times their behavior IS being done to irritate you in particular. Now you have to decide how and when you will confront them on this. But whatever you do, choose your actions, don't react. Don't let them own you and own your emotions. If you don't choose your actions and simply react you become a very easily manipulated marionette.
