best way to help a close friend through a break-up

So, a friend of mine has recently been dumped by his gf a week ago because she liked her old boyfriend still.... He has been majorly in the blues for the past week now, and he has done nothing but wonder where he went wrong, and he hasn't eaten much or anything. I keep on telling him that it wasn't his fault, and that emotions cloud people's judgements. I am giving him his space, but with this guy being a close friend, I don't like it when I see the people I care about upset..... do any of you orgers have any advice on how i can help.......

Not much. Be a friend, give them room and time to whine, watch for those subtle signs, and grab them and shake the hell out of them when they wallow in their misery too much.

I tried to make my friend laugh but he was too sad, and all I could do was listen and listen and listen, and empathize.

Simply be there and be patient/understanding. And whatever you do, do not try to distract them from the sadness -- but don't let them be consumed by it.

nod Only time can heal the wounds. You can do your job best as a friend by simply being a shoulder to lean on for them.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

In all seriousness...if he's that depressed over it, then he really needs an ear to chew off and a shoulder to cry on.

...and maybe some tequila.
