WorldWideWeb (later renamed Nexus) was the first ever web browser in 1990, just 4 year ahead of the internet going mainstream in 1994.

So how many of you actually remember any of these browsers? Did you like any of them?

I was late getting in to the internet game.

Didn't actually buy a "real" computer until 2000/2001.

I do, however, still have & use my AOL account (which originally I paid $25.00/month for!).

I used Lynx and Viola until Mosaic took over on the UNIX terminals at college.

At home, dial-up freenets and paid services made web browsing with the Windows Mosaic port lame until I snagged a 28.8 modem.

There were also plenty of BBS Systems which, while not serving html or style sheets in the same way as a web browser, were a very early form of internet access. Not to mention the Newsgroups, which, obviously, spawned alt.music.prince and alt.binaries.music.prince, the PML, the PPML, and eventually the Org and other cool sites.

For a long time, I think I spend more hours on BBSes, MUDs, and Newsgroups than actual Web Sites and forums. Probably well into the late 90s.

AOL as a web browser was OK. But AOL as an internet service sucked even in it heyday because it was responsible for a few expensive phone bills! I hate it.

Netscape was definitely my first web browsing experience. It was included pre-installed on my Package Bell desktop PC, which in itself was THE first computer I've ever owned before I ended up selling it as a pawn shop a year later. But anyway, I used to think Netscape was pretty cool in it heyday. It's too bad it wasn't good enough to complete with Internet Explorer.

You know your internet history if you can remember the days of newsgroups, MUDs, and/or chat rooms. During my days as a WebTV user, there were pretty of chat rooms in WebTV, Yahoo, and AOL.

For the last 2 years at least, I've moved on to other distros since Linux Mint. I've used Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE), Lubuntu, AntiX, and Debian (my current distro). I got bored with the current Debian Stable (Wheezy) after only 2 weeks so I've changes the repos and upgrade to the current Debian Testing (Jessie).

LOL, I was a member of AOL when you had to pay for it by the minute!

It was not uncommon to have a $100/month internet bill. Then AOL went to flat pricing at $10/month and that's when the Internet really took off.

I remember my dad buying a book that purported to have every Internet site in the world in it. And at that time, it probably did, LOL.

No, I never would have imagined anthing like that existed! Not until 1996, at least.

I was on it from '92 to '94, if I recall correctly. It was fun. At the time, I didn't know any other Prince fans at all, so it was the first time I had interaction with fellow fans. Good times.
