What is the nicest thing someone has done for you?

My nephew passed away at 14 in 2002. The principal of the school decided that he should still be part of the graduation ceremony and made a speech about him, saying that all he ever wanted to do while he was ill was come to school. At the end of her speech, she said, had he lived, he would have been valecdictorian, so she made him co-valecdictorian and presented his diploma to my sister. I think it was not only nice of her but a beautifully wonderful thing to do.

The principal was hip hop artist Common's mother and when I met him the next year I told him what his family had done for mine.

I was finishing my dissertation back in 2011, when one of the members of my committee passed away. Dr. M. was a nice man, and I was sorry to hear, but that meant I wasn't going to be able to defend and graduate on time. I was in a panic! omfg

On a whim, I walked up to a coworker- a History teacher who had been a professor at Columbia University prior to teaching high school. Without hesitation, he agreed. He called my advisor and filled out the necessary paperwork, read my dissertation in two days, called me to go over his notes, and then coached me on how to navigate the oral defense.

On the day of my defense, he took a personal day, took the train to Rutgers, and sat on my committee.

I cannot express how much I feel like I owe this man...
We were friendly coworkers before that, but he went above and beyond to make sure I would get my Doctorate and graduate on time. touched

Several people have done the following:

1. Helped me through some difficult financial times in the past, no questions asked or judgments.

2. 3 People have written me songs. One other person donated a song to a commercial I created for one of my current business. Another has given me permission to use his as well. I love artists--I always have, so I am thankful to them.

3. An orger shipped me several DVDs of music that I had lost when my harddrive crashed. It was music I had spent money on (this was when napster wasn't so popular yet), so it would have cost me a fortune to rebuild my catalogue.

4. My current boss goes out of his way to accomodate my schedule. I have a second job once a week being a quiz master, which pays really good money. It's against Uni rules to have side jobs if you're a lecturer or professor, but knowing I do this , they actually work my schedule so that I can do it without having to rush. I actually get a 2-day break in my workweek because of it. So every week, I have a total of 4 off-days, and only work 3 now. Don't get me wrong, I'm alsways working--even on my off days, but now I can generate more money. I'm very thankful to them for that.

5. One of my best friends here, a charming and intelligent Welshman, was the guy that got me the gig as a quiz master--before he asked me to join him, I didn't even know what quiz masters were or why anyone would want to participate in a pub quiz. Now, we are by far the most successful pub quiz in Bangkok. Last week, we had 19 teams play--that's massive. Hopefuly we'll grow our brand.

6. My mom. For everything.

Someone let me borrow their car for the weekend nod...

Well, they didn't let me "borrow" their car, per se', so much as they didn't mind me taking it.

Actually, they didn't know I took it...but when they found out they didn't call the police after they saw I filled the tank up.

You know, now that I think about it, I think it was a Budget car rental place.

Well, damn...turns out nobody's done shit for me. mad

I had an EXTREMELY nice thing done for me very recently-!

As you all probably know I have an Ion turntable that I had "issues" with.

A fellow orger not only provided me with recommendations for a "fix" - but actually SENT ME a kick-ass pair of SPEAKERS to use when I get the thing running!!! NICE speakers that cost her more to mail that I was going to spend on my own.

touched x 1,000

She probably doesn't want me to be publicly giving her a shout-out, so I won't tell you whom.

But it was a really, really nice thing that brightened up my month!

nod

...and btw, I bank at and have accounts.

there really is too many for me to list here. someone always comes to help me when i think i am at a dead end in my life or a situation. God never leaves me without help, but i have a lack of faith at times.

a wonderful doctor helped nurse my son back to health about 3 or 4 years ago when he had influenza B so bad that he lost the use of his legs, and almost died. she went the extra mile, above and beyond any doctor i've ever seen.

several years ago my husband had to drive a long and winding mountain road, a very dangerous one to get to work. it was thanksgiving morning and they called him into work on his day off. he hit a deer and it wasted the front of our car. we didn't have the $500 deductible for our insurance so that it could be repaired. my husband's boss at the time gave him the money, and when my husband tried to pay him back later, he wouldn't accept it.

all the times my co-workers and my husband's co-workers helped us out at walmart. say what you will and make as many jokes as you'd like about walmart employees. but many of them are some of the kindest and loving people i've ever met in my life. down to earth people that would give their shirt off of their back to help one of their co-workers going through a rough or difficult time.

i could really go and on.....but i don't want to bore you folks. i will just say that i am very blessed and i know it. biggrin
