Did anyone else watch the 2013 Tony awards, how good was Neil Patrick Harris?!!! I really enjoyed watching it, loved all the musical performances, especially the opening performance and the one about the perks of being in a tv series, and the ending was very nicely done!

Really need to go to New York and see a few of these new shows though!!

i saw it. i debated starting a thread during it, but figured it would just end up me talking to myself.

great show. it was a REALLY good year for plays (i am a HUGE durang fan and saw vanya and sonja and misha and spike twice, something i rarely do) and an okay year for musicals. really glad kinky boots won, as usually my favorite musical each year dont win. they usually pick the more bland, family driven shows.

NPH killed the opening number

the fun thing is i know a bunch of former nominees and winners, so chatting about it on facebook was fun. i got a big laugh on a patti lupone joke i made from two people who worked with her, one of which was nominated last night (and saw it early this morning). she really has a habit of uniting her co-stars against her.

if you do get to nyc and want to see some of the nominees/winners, i really recommend kinky boots, vanya and sonja and misha and spike, and matilda. of the ones still open at the moment, those are the best.

I don't disagree about those shows, but I would add The Assembled Parties to the list. I loved it.

Judith is wonderful in it, but Jessica Hecht truly was robbed for not being nominated. She is so good. I like Judith a lot, but her part is the easy one.

I really wanted Billy Magnussen to win for his performance as Spike, but thats cause Ive been followoing him since he was Casey on As The World Turns.

I mean come on Tony people.

So happy for Cyndi Lauper and Cicely Tyson! Much deserved wins.

On a side note, I can't believe Bring It On was turned into a Broadway musical.

i saw it... honestly, it was even worse in reality than i thought it would have been. they didnt even follow the storyline of the rich white girls having stolen the black girls cheers, which was one of the better things about the movie.

instead they stole the mean girls plot, and made it so the decent girl gets moved to the black school where she creates a cheer squad with the poor black kids and they take on the rich white kids.

i spent most of the show trying to figure out why they made the odd choices they did, and hoping it would be short. i was amazed when it was nominated, but it was a rather blah year for musicals.

Well it seems to be a trend on Broadway of late. Kinky Boots was a movie first and now a broadway show and Im sure in pre production to become a movie again. Its a weird cycle.

that used to bother me, but then came all the even worse juke box shows. take a bunch of pop hits, "glee" a poorly written plot around it, call it a new show.

those made the movie to musicals seem not as bad

some movies work as musicals, though. hairspray (not the movie musical one), kinky, xanadu, and billy elliot were awesome and made sense as musicals.

Replace "cheer squad" with "high school football" and you have the plotline of Goldie Hawn's Wildcats. Thanks for your review, cborgman.

i shouldnt have said the mean girls plot. i should have said the mean girls characters and revenge storyline
