I'm sure it's understood by everyone here that comic publishers are a sum of the freelancers working for them at the time including Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Bob Kane or Steve Ditko. Saying S.H.I.E.L.D. is a Marvel Comics creation is not wrong.

If the ratings suck ABC will pull the plug on it.

How is ABC different from any other network in that regard? I still say because of the Avengers movie tie in, the show will be allowed to air for two seasons before pulling the plug.

Umm Networks are different from each other. One show may get a bettter chance on one network than the other (Jag got canned after 1 season on NBC but lasted like 9 years on CBS). Once again ABC has a long history of pulling the plug on Sci-Fi theme shows, it's all about the ratings. If anything Shield may have more pressure on it to do well. Yes Avengers was a monster at the movies, however Shield will focus on lesser known heroes. Will large numbers of the population follow on a weekly basis if there's no Thor/Captain America/ or Hulk. Just because it's Marvel doesn't mean it will be a home run, don't think Howard the Duck tv show would be a hit. Yes die hard comic fans will follow (and yes I watch and hope it will last).

The ratings for JAG were a lot better on CBS which is why it lasted so long on that network.

I never said this show will be a home run, just that it will be allowed to run longer than eight episodes like you predicted because it's a Disney show.

I base it on ABC history of Sci-Fi theme shows. If it does make it for 2 seasons it will be like V, two half seasons. My issue is that it is on ABC, honestly I think Shield would be better if it was on NBC. NBC has been Sci-Fi friendly lately, Heroes and Chuck had a good run and Revolution and Grimm looks like they also will be around for another season.

that's cool, we can agree to disagree...i just wanted to highlight the fact that, while it is indeed cool that joss whedon's name is attached to a new television show, jack kirby's name is conspicuosly absent from any discussion about the characters he created.

I would agree with you if this show wasn't created 'in house' so to speak--send it to Fox where it could air on Friday for years even if the ratings are in the basement like Fringe. But sending it to another network would be like YouTube creating a show and then giving it to Netflix to air when YouTube could air it itself and give it special treatment that Netflix couldn't.

Gonna have to agree to disagree with you. FOX is another bad network for Sci-Fi shows (except X-files) it did stick with Fringe but alot of sci-fi shows came and went over the years.
