Is Ford bringing luxury back?

So...Ford has renamed their Lincoln badge as "The Licoln Motor Co." & spending lots of money in an effort to make the brand a true "luxury" automaker.

They've rolled out the redesigned Lincoln MKZ and hope to compete against the likes of Cadillac, BMW and Lexus.

What do you think?

Does that look like a "luxury" car to you?

shrug

I think it looks like a Toyota (Camry? Avalon?...not even a Lexus).

I like the older styling of the MKZ better...the grill was more like what I would think a Lincoln should be like. (2010 model shown)

shrug

What do you think?

Is Ford on the right track, or are they hopelessly out of the game?

I'm sure it's a nice car, but no that looks very dull, like a Taurus or Nissan.

Dull.

nod

It reminds me of what Hyundai is trying to do with the Equus (sorry Rodeoschro)...making a "luxury" car, but not really DESIGNING one.

HELL...the freakin' Equus looks more like "luxury" than the MKZ (IMO).

Ford has been making really nice looking cars the last 3 years or so.

I mean, compared to the shit they were crapping out 10 years ago anyways.

Yeah, definitely.

In fact, when they scrapped Mercury in order to focus in Lincoln, I had high hopes for the return of American luxury cars (Cadillac is doing a good job as well).

But still...this new MKZ is almost channeling the lackluster Continentals of the 2000's that ended the line...

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the new one. It reminds me of the Crown Vic, another ugly, boring ass ride.

Doesn't look like a Lincoln to me. It just looks like any other car on the street these days, only a little bit bigger.

As for competing with Cadillacs, Cadillacs haven't looked like a Cadillac since they changed their style when the 2000s arrived. They changed their style every decade but it always looked like an updated version of a Cadillac though. The ones from the 2000s don't even have the back tail fins which define the look of a Cadillac. They just look generic like everything else but with a big expensive price tag on it.

spit My mother was the same way and I guess I am too. I've met several people that feel the same way. I remember I had a Cadillac and my best friend had a Lincoln Town Car. He said "Sharp Car" and I said "Yours too" and then my mother said...."Yeah, but it's still some Ford shit". lol

I like Ford Mustangs....vintage AND new. boxed

But I can´t stand Ford in general. The Mustang is the only Ford car that I like.

Hondas are sexy though. wink

They should focus on quality, not looks or "luxury", whatever that´s supposed to mean.

A Ford will always be just a Ford....even the whackiest Mercedes or BMW will always be lightyears ahead of a Ford as far as quality and "luxury" or prestige are concerned.

At least the Mustang is an original and has character. Something that this supposedly "luxurious" car is lacking in this picture.

It's built on the same platform so they def look alike, except for front and rear styling...I like the Taurus but this new Lincoln is absolutely my favorite American car in production right now...the MKZ isn't so much about true luxury as it is about competing in an already saturated mid size sedan market...

if Lincoln moves forward with it's Continental concept, luxury will be at the forefront

lol Dunno really? Didn't see many running round London growing up. Only saw em on the telly. I wouldn't wanna corner in one. Especially with those dodgy screechy tyres you all have over there. Screech on sand or gravel they will, I've seen em.

That thing up top doesn't look quality to me. Ford do Fords really, not luxury. Best thing they made was a Model T and a Mustang for me.

My old man had a Zephyr when we were kids. boxed Bench seat in the front we'd all slide around on. Over here we had the real Ford luxury. (I know there's no such thing but go with it).

Capri. Most fun in the snow you can have. No handling, dangerously hilarious.

Ford Cortina lol

I guess it's an American thing.

There was a time when "luxury" meant big-ass cars for us...

....and Lincoln, Chrysler, Cadillac, etc. knew how to make them bigger & badder.

But nowadays, with gas mileage & crumple zones being important, "luxury" means having one of these slapped onto your grill;
