Mushroom people normally attack with short swords, but once a day they may also shower attackers with needly-like spores, allowing an attack roll against all creatures within 5' and inflicting 3d6 damage on a successful hit.



Mushroom people are proportioned similarly to gnomes. They vary in size from 3' to 4' tall, including their cap-like mushroom tops. Their skin is mushroom-colored, and is very tough, though a bit pudgy. There are neither male nor female mushroom peo pel -- all are equally capable of reproducing by themselves, through spores.

Mushroom people live in heavily forested areas, dwelling where leaf coverage drowns out the all light and where rainfall makes conditions opitimal for growth and reproduction. They may live alongside deepdew, but build houses and castles just like hum ans do. They tend to be timid and nonviolent, being naturally unaggressive creatures. Those few mushrooms who do take up combat act only in defense against belligerent races.

All mushroom people are capable of ejecting spores during battle; however, their spores only produce young if given at least a year to grow strong within the mushroom fur's cap. Thereafter any spore ejection is likely to result in the birth of three to five new mushroom children. Mushroom children mature within 10 years, but are taken care of by their parent for at least sixteen years before they are ready to head into the world on their own.

Ordinary mushroom people live for about 60 years, but a few may live to an age of 300 or more. These mushrooms inevitably become the next mushroom king. Once they turn 100 or so, they begin to enlarge, growing about an inch a year, to a maximum heig ht of twelve feet. The mushroom king has 5 hit dice and attacks twice for 2d6 damage. Though the king's spores are infertile, they can inflict 4d6 damage and have a range of 20' about the mushroom king.
