Anyone know how to get rid of horizontal lines on laptop monitor?!! Pulling my hair out! I was watching a movie on my toshiba laptop, fell aspleep, and when I woke up, half the screen was filled with horizontal lines. I tried going to fourms, microsoft help and tried to update drivers, etc. Nothing is working! I had this problem a couple of years ago and took some advice which was putting pressure on the frame of the monitor and the lines went away. Not this time. Other suggestions were to replace the screen and that it might be overheating. Also, of course, tried restarting, stc. Any suggestions? From peeps who might have had this problem? This computer is about four years old...other than the horizontal lines, it is working fine. Excuse me for typos...I can only read part of this post. That happened to my son's HP laptop as well. Same experience with the horizonal lines.
We had to take the laptop in to be serviced. Luckily it was still under warranty and the laptop was not even a year old yet.
My son says the service guy told him that the screen was not properly constructed. So basically, the inside where the screen is, the wires came apart so they were not touching. You have to see whether your graphics card is defective or no good.
You might of damaged it from some physical damage sometime.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, my warranty has expired, but what you say makes sense. The irony is that when this first happened, it was still under extended warranty. Glad to hear you have a go-to son like mine who knows more about this stuff. My son says this computer has almost reached it's end life cycle... Too bad I have so much PRince stuff on it. My son says to back it all up on Cloud like he does his...but I'm too old school for that... Fortunately, I bought a new Toshiba that I've hardly used about a year ago... Guess I'll switch now...although I really love this one Vista and all. Hardly had any problems with it... Guess it would cost more to get the screen fixed now than it is worth... (Hope you can read this, cause I can't! LOL). BTW--not physical damage because I haven't taken it anywhere or moved it. Maybe it is time for you just to get a new puter. Back up your stuff. You can transfer the stuff onto your new puter. And for your Prince stuff.......... get an external HD Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! Well, I did buy a new computer a few months ago...and just hooked it up. LOL Now, I can read your post. I bought the new one because it was on sale super cheap and it was either that or get a new printer. The trouble is it has a super big keyboard and I keep hitting the wrong keys! I miss my old one! Wanh! My son has used it more than me when he comes to visit... Oh, well, gotta move on with the new. What would you suggest for an external hardrive that will last a long time? I read about some on Amazon...but not too enthused about the reviews for any of them. Isn't it still better to back up even zip files on DVD? Which you can access later? Sign me--hopelessly out of date.
