What Thing's Should I Do While I'm Young? More specifically in the summer? Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I am 51 and I can tell you what I would do differently.
People are eager to help young folks that are bright or at least give them a chance. I would have traveled more and stayed in youth hostels. I would have absolutely learned a second and a third language. LEARN SPANISH
Lived by the motto "it is better to be disliked for who you are then liked for who you think other people want you to be".
Start saving at least a little bit. I don't know how your relationship is with your family and such( would they help you out of a bind) but I stayed in situations far too long because I didn't have the money to walk out.
I don't think anyone I have ever met anyone who regrets traveling. I also think that it is silly to get in a monogamous relationship at that age that is suppose to last for a lifetime. I have met quite a few people that regret getting tied down to one person at your age.

Definitly do plenty of LSD. To make a thief, make an owner; to create crime, create laws.

go with some friends & rent a summer cabin, swim, eat, drink, have bonfires...& get laid.
start saving a little bit every week, a nest egg....in 10 yrs, you will be soooo glad you did.

As a fellow gay the only piece of advice I would offer is
Always, no matter what you want to experience, take a moment to remember to be streetsmart, safe and resectful to yourself and the people you are bout to experience your youth with and then enjoy.
Oh and never dance to that damn talentless whore, but its okay to dance your balls off to this.
N when you have your drunk one nighters, next time you see them out dont ignore them. Its kinda tacky. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

Travel and find out how other communities around the world live, meet people, fall in love, break up, get hurt, be crazy, do stupid things, fuck stuff up, and have lots, lots of sex!

Ex-Moderator | Have fun! You have your whole damn life to "work hard". Enjoy yourself while you're still young and responsibility-free enough to do it. |

Start saving for retirement. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I hope with all this traveling, partying and living it up you have a VERY well paying job with a boss who lets you take all the time off you need for having fun... ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

You definitely don't need a VERY well paying job to have fun and enjoy yourself. Money isn't everything, that's for darn sure. |

This is the best advice on this thread. Start with saving at least 50$ a month already.
And top that up if you can. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I lived hand to mouth for a lot of my 20s. But if I'd been a little smarter, I could've eked out at least a little something to put into a retirement fund - and had a lot more banked now.
I'm saving like crazy now, but I'll probably never be able to retire completely. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yes. I have to make a retirement plan myself. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I have to agree with the retirement thing even though you don't really want to hear it when you're 22. Time is your biggest factor on your side and it goes by so quickly. I read in one of Suze Ormans books Young Fabulous and Broke that if you invest $500 a month for 10 years between the age of 25 and 35 and stop, it will be a million bucks by the time your 65 whereas if you start saving $500 a month from the age of 35 and do it every year until your 65 you'll have under 400k. Not to bum out those of us who are over 35 or anything
Don't spend your money on a bunch of useless shit or piss it against the wall. Along with your health, financial security is one of the best gifts you could give yourself when you're older. [Edited 4/24/13 16:26pm]

I'm young as well to. I'm 25. It kinda irks me when we those this thing we were kinda show off our age. I mean, you should do what you want to do. I feel we are in control of our destiny and we should everything we want to do.

That being said. I am also jealous, of those who are in more control of their life. Currently, i am not in control of mines. I have to hide a thing of me on the basis of not dissapoint my parents and also i lack that special thing that gets peope attracted to me. it gets kinda scary because i haven't done those things are expected of me such as move out, have a relationship, fallen in love, driven a car, etc.
i don't know , have fun! | |
