...and now I had a massive car-accident!

I was testing a car for a car company and had a (admittedly quick) night-drive on a greesy road. The bastards who sent me the car forgot to mention the car still had the wrong tires on. So I had a massive accident in the woods, wrecked the car completely, broke through the safety fence, chopped a couple of small trees and only cracked a rib. What used to be the car now only literally consists of where I was sat, the rest of the car (including the engine) is scattered throughout the woods. The fire department said it was a miracle I survived, let alone got away with only a couple of bruises.

The car was an expensive sports car and insurance won't cover much of it, so, in addition to losing my wonderful part-time job, I'm rather fucked!

I must say, this has been a rather turbulent and exciting year so far. I'm starting to enjoy this rock'n'roll shit.

Other than the cracked rib, how is the rest of you feeling? Did you get a complete look over?

I am glad that you didn't end up like the car!!!!!

Yes, got a complete look-over and it's all just bruises, a minor concussion and the rib thing.

I'm pretty nervous about what my boss will have to say tomorrow morning once she's received my message. Somehow I deeply believe she'll give me a nice blow-job and all will be well and forgotten. Well, here's hoping!

Other than all that, I'm still pretty shaky. I had a slight memory loss and it's only now that I remember how I immediately got out of the car (or what was left of it) and started picking up pieces of the engine in the dark woods, like a complete idiot on coke! I was adamant I had to pick it all up lol

The huge coincidence was that a police car drove by in the middle of the night by chance, because I doubt that I would have been intelligent enough to simply call the police in my state of shock. It was only on the way to the hospital that the pain started to kick in.

Just had a talk with one of my superiors and they were surprisingly relaxed about the car. They stressed that we had to organise another model so that I can finish my testing, and that they have absolute belief in my driving abilities and know that I'm a very safe (although quick, which they value highly) driver.

I still haven't talked to my actual boss, but the conversation with this superior was kind of comforting. The insurance thing is another part of the story, though, and we'll see about the outcome of that...

I won't get carried away, but it seems like I am not gonna lose this wonderful part-time job, which is rather good news.

And thanks for your comfort, people!

I'm glad you're OK! Sounds like a bad accident.

What kind of car is that?

It's an extra tuned race version (but road legal) of the Renault Mégane R.S. - it's "only" got 270hp, but it's light as hell and therefore quite twitchy...

I glad you are safe and evening with you carrying your cracked ribs you should get back behind the wheel as soon as possible.

Your supervisor has the right attitude, same model, finish testing...it's your response to this which will determine you future.

It is just another car...not the one you had an accident in so test it as normal and return a full report positives and negatives or what ever you normally do.

..do not have any hang ups because of the accident, but if you feel you do have some hang ups, then find someone to talk too.

Good luck.

p.s. never liked Renaults much anyway!!

Wow!

Happy that you are ok.

Be careful, you can have a concussion.

Pay attention to the symptoms, and make sure you don't neglect it.

Good thing those cars get tested, I guess. confused

Don't worry about the material consequences.
That's your boss' her problem. Not yours.

And I'm glad you have so many guardian angels.

Making sure you survived and that the police car came by.

Take care of yourself, Dave.

Take your rest.

Give yourself a little recovery time.

Dave that's a scary story.

The fact that they had the wrong tires on it is grounds for a lawsuit! (or at least it would be if you were a lawsuit-crazy American lol )

Glad you're relatively OK.

Apart from minor pain at varius times during the day, I have had two or three nightmares about the accident, where I felt the absence of gravity while literally flying into the woods, with the trees coming fast at me. I usually woke up at "impact".

But other than that, I'm fine. I've been testing another (although much slower and more boring car) yesterday and even visited the scene of accident and had a cigarette there.

I guess I'll be fine, it'll just take a couple of weeks to process the images in my mind and all that...

Yeah, just give yourself some time.

I'm glad you did drive again.

And that you went back, that's always good.

It's normal that you dream about it.

I mean it's a heavy accident, so it will make a deep impression.

Not necesseraly negative.

My brother was involved in an accident, and the other person died.

He valued life and the important stuf since.

It made him apreciate every day in his life.

The general director of Renault Austria called me today and wanted me to give a detailed explanation and description about the accident. She said that if damages surpass the 30k € range, she is contacted personally to decide on how to proceed, whether to take it to court etc etc.

She sounded very strict (and sexy, 'cause she's French), and slightly suspicious, but my boss assured me that they will pay for all the expenses and that I'll be fine.

:phew:

Do you not have car insurance over there? Only thing that wouldnt be covered is your deductable.. They company that you work for should be responsible for any cost occured because you were working for them..

Of course we have car ensurance, Tina...

But not every car is insured, especially not sports test cars like this one, because they get tested once in two years and for the rest of the time they just collect dust at car shows around the world and hardly ever get driven on the roads; it simply wouldn't pay off to insure them, as it would also cost a fortune.

And I wouldn't even have to pay a deductible if it were a fully comprehensive cover, as is the case with most cars over here, but test cars are hardly ever insured like that.

So, someone will have to come up with the cost. I was working for them, yes, but it is still debatable whether my testing was done on a reasonable level and whether I could have done better in preventing the accident.
