I'm not sure what to make of this movie.
It's a 'smart' sci-fi in the vain of Prometheus (Which honestly isn't really all that smart.). I found it to be entertaining and thought provoking on some levels, making it pretty decent story telling, but I found it to be rather silly from a sci-fi point-of-view.

Like most movies in this genre these days, it's a movie that needs 'twists', and this movie gives you 3 of them, 2 you should see coming because the clues left are not necessarily hidden.

A few things:

1. Beautiful scenery - taking ques from Prometheus

2. Silly backstory

3. Great acting as always from Cruise

4. The true nature of Sally was obvious due to repititions

5. The 'plothole' why there is only one wife is explained well in the end.

Overall, not a great movie, but certainly better than Prometheus was.

Morgan Friedman's lines were terrible. They could have given an actor of his caliber better lines. Tom Cruise also has some cheeky but unimaginative lines.

Last thing: It's just a gorgeous film. Lawd that swimming pool. lawd

Although I would like to say that for a man in such fit shape throughout his career--he's older now, but still really fit-- Mr. Cruise really needs to work on his ass. It's really never been terribly bubbly. Too large and flat. Disapointing since we have to see so many shots of it as he runs away from the camera.

Sometimes, Thailand gets the movie weeks before the USA (sometimees weeks after).

I'm not sure why, but I think it has something to do with how quickly high quality DVDs hit the streets these days. I'm sure you can find copies of Oblivion (and I don't mean filmed in the theater hack jobs--but actually high quality DVDs) in certain parts of Bangkok already.

They showed the new Star Trek In to Darkness trailer too--it was....amazing.

I guess I'd watch this if Kevin Costner was the lead role...

This movie looks ok to me. I might go see it at the theatres.

IMO - Tom gets a bad rap mostly because of his affiliation with Scientology. If you look back at his body of work, he makes better movies than most actors that are as prolific as he is. Sure, he's made a few stinkers, but for the most part, his movies are pretty good.

He's an excellent actor.

I haven't seen his Nazi one, nor any of the Mission Impossible, but I liked the following:

1. Vanilla Sky (wierd as hell)

2. Top Gun ( cheesy fun )

3. Interview witht he Vampire (he was a convincing Lestat)

4. Jerry Macguire ( hilarious )

5. War of the Worlds

6. Minority Report

7. The Last Samuri ( though I dislike the white-guy-teaches-yellow-guy-his-culture aspect)

I swear he did another sci-fi, didn't he (around the same time as Minority report?)

He did a lot of movies, and I've seen less than half, but I've only disliked maybe 10% of them.

Ultimately, he'll be known as the most successfully gay actor in history, I think.

It's coming this weekend. I plan on seeing it, maybe not this weekend. I prefectly okay with Tom, I thought Valkyrie was good, in fact I like most of his stuff, not everything but most.

Oh, it's going to be a fun summer.

I have a loophole issues: how did Sally not know Jack was flying 52 not 49's ship? I mean she knows EVERYTHING, right? why didn't she pick up on that!

And a general question, why were Jack and Vicka needed at all, I mean that's a lot of work just for drone maintenace, surely the Tet could have orchestrated that remotely too somehow? Like tech-droids or something. Star Wars had that shit all figured out.

Dan what do you mean about the second wife? Was there ANOTHER Julia? or you mean Vicka was Jack's second wife and what happened to her? I'm sure Sally would have terminated her if there had been time. But what about all the other Jacks and Vickas or had so far only the 2 pairs been installed? From the numbers 49 and 52 I'm guessing not only those 4.

I thought he was pretty good in "Valkyrie"...the movie itself was pretty good as well.

Most folks didn't like him in "Interview with the Vampire" but I've always loved him in it.

What I mean is that there were two Jacks--and two Julias. In my mind that meant that his real wife had to be multiple as well. I originally thought it was a plothole in the storyline. When he crossed the radiation zone and went in to Jack 52's domain, I figured every human involved was cloned, including his real wife.

Obviously this is not true becase she was ejected from the original ship and never cloned by Sally--only Jack and Julia were.

I thought tha sky mansion was absolutely goregous, and loved every aspect of it. However, I took issue with it basically because it reflected technologies we could concieve of today--not what would proabably be plausible in the future. For example, Why would Julie have to look at a complicated array of schematics on a large table at all? Wouldn't such information be transmitted directly to her eyes with bite sized nuggest that she needed on demand as she needed it?

Also, it's not implausible that the motorbike Jack used should have been far more advanced. For example, robotics in the future should be such that anyone attempting to steal the bike would have a difficult time doing so--The rebels were able to just walk up to it and take it. Remember, Jack is the only human clone who ever uses the bike--therefore, shouldn't the bike not permit anyone but Jack to ride it? And being that Jack is so valuable in this situation, if he were caught, should there be a way to remotely kill him--I mean, he's very important, but also very 'duplicated'.

Anyways, it was a good entertaining story--just not great sci-fi.

I really was not happy with this movie. Everything in it was extremely predictable. Some

moments were far too The Matrix/ The Island/ The 6th day for me. I do agree that

the visuals were amazing. But the end, really? Who the fuck needs Jack 49 when Jack 52

is alive and kickin?

Also, Morgan Freemans character says something about 50 years of watching one Jack

after another. We know he wasn't cloned AND he wasn't frozen in time like the wife.

So, why the fuck isn't he old as hell? Was he 10 when he was fighting the aliens?

Also, why didn't the ALL KNOWING Sally feel that the body being brought in

wasn't female? Or feel all those little energy cells?
