Microsoft may have been real smart years ago - XP is probably their best creation - but they've since fucked up with Vista and now with 8. They redeemed themselves with 7 judging from consumers' views of that OS.
Vista, the OS from HELL.
Yeah I still have my Compaq 2001 XP SP3 notebook still chugging along. We shall have to keep abreast of the security updates made my third parties after MS stops support. At some point Timmy we are gonna have to give up the ghost; I remember how long I held onto Win 98 SE, 2008. :giggle. Come on over to Linux brother. I'll have some Linux videos on my new channel soon so you can see how easy it is to use. |

I hate that Microsoft is trying to force XP users to switch to them because they didn't wanna continue putting out "security fixes". I liked xp, too, but it's kind of old at this point! They can't support it forever |

But what have they got better? That's what I mean about them being stuck. Might as well keep it at 7 if you're gonna "move on". Not supporting it "forever" actually doesn't make sense especially in an economy that doesn't really help you make a choice. Windows 8 is too costly for anyone to upgrade at the moment and they haven't offered a frigging service pack yet. Fuck that lol |

Touch screens should be for phones and tablets only. Not desktops and laptops. |

Pc's are like a television or a fridge these days, you're not buying a new one every year.
I bought 2 laptops in 10 years or something....they work just fine for a long time. There is not much improvement, so why buy a new one? I doubt Win 8 is to blame, when you need a pc, you buy a pc, but when you have one, they last long. |

When I bought my Windows 7 computer, I was offered an upgrade to Windows 8 for $18.00. The sales people really tried to push it on me... I told them I wasn't interested. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

XP, like Windows XP? Man, Windows 7 is great! But I'm going to skip Windows 8. I said that before it was ever released. They're just pumping out new OS too fast right now. |

For the record, Windows 7 is good. My mom had to buy a new computer and it was installed with Windows 8 but they put it back to 7 for her. She was actually used to VISTA!
On my Mac, I can boot into Windows and I still use XP because that's what I was running the last time I had a PC. |

Yeah. Windows XP and Office 2003 users are supposed to lose their security fix rights by April 8, 2014. That's just wrong lol |

lol you're not alone.
That being said, I think Microsoft itself is pushing an agenda with them trying to get us to believe Win 8 is great lol |

I vaguely remember what you wrote when we discuss this subject months back. Please, share your thoughts again Cerebus.
The PC isn't going anywhere soon but tablet's have cut into a significant chunk of the PC market because a lot of people didn't all the bells and whistle on a PC in the first place - a lot of folks don't use most of the functions on VHS/DVD/Tivo. In some respects, some businesses travelers have ditched their notebooks because what they need can be accessed via the Cloud.
Of course if you are like me and are generally paranoid on who has my info and who's keeping it, and how may have access to it. You can build your "Cloud" too... I'll have a tutorial about how Timmy probably this fall/early next year.

I have Windows 8.
It does have good things. It's FAR faster than 7 for a start. Boot and shutdown is 10x faster than the exact same machine running 7, and the new Task Manager and File Transfer functionality are vastly improved.
That all said, the new interface is a joke and there are still many bugs in the system. Good thing you can turn it off and revert to essentially the same look as 7.
Microsoft have a pattern though:
Windows 3.1 : Good
Windows 95 : Shit
Windows 98 : Good
Windows 2000 : Shit
Windows XP : Good
Windows Vista : Shit
Windows 7 : Good
Windows 8 : Shit
So with any luck Windows 9 will be a VAST improvement.

I didn't say you were bitchin'.... you appear a tad tentative that's all. You are the type of person who Linux was meant for. If you get a new computer in the future use your present one to mess around with it... Linux that is. Something tells me you wouldn't go back to MS.
I've noticed that good your bad year thing MS, curious. |

lol thing is the computer my brother gave me is so fast compared to other computers I had and he's got a lot of good stuff stored there that I haven't deleted (like music and DVD stuff). If it was just a computer we got from Rent a Center, it would be a different story and I'd be like "shoot, sure, why not?" That's really the hold up. |

I heard 8 was actually slower than 7... but I guess it depends on the type of computer you got and how much RAM's in there. |

North Korean Missile Test Delayed by Windows 8
PYONGYANG (The Borowitz Report)—North Korea’s official news agency announced today that the military’s planned missile test had been put on hold because of “problems with Windows 8.”
Intelligence analysts said that the announcement gave rare insight into the inner workings of North Korea’s missile program, which until last year had been running on Windows 95.
The announcement from the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) did not indicate a new scheduled time for a missile test, saying only that it was “working with Windows 8 support to resolve the issue.”
In the words of one intelligence analyst, “That means the test has been delayed indefinitely.”
A source close to the North Korean regime reported that Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un is furious about the Windows 8 problems and is considering a number of options, including declaring war on Microsoft.

Apple updates its OS just as often as Windows (maybe more often). I don't really have a problem with it. I used XP for almost ten years, and I was really happy with it. Windows 7 has worked well for me too.
My only problem is that desktops and laptops are not nearly as sexy as an iPhone (or droid or whatever you choose). That OS is beautiful and totally geared towards utility. I use an iMac at work, and there was not even a fucking timer on it! How can they ignore such obvious things that people use on a regular basis?! A computer should do MORE than an iPhone and there should be MORE apps for a computer than a phone.
I bought my HP laptop in 2011, and it seems totally antiquated compared to my phone, even though I know it's capable of more and it's faster and more powerful. |

Microsoft got me once with Windows Vista, i'm not falling for the okey doke a second time.
Its a damn shame that after all these years and just until recent(w7) Windows XP was still Microsoft's best OS(opinion)...
