Diet advice thread! I did an online diet log/analysis thingie, and the results told me I'm not getting enough carbs, (I avoid bread, pasta, cereals generally because of a wheat sensitivity, and any pre-made crackers and cookies because of lactose intolerance). Also I avoid pretty much all processed stuff where I can because of both of those reasons and sodium.
I could eat more fruit (I need more vitamin C too) - I LOVE bananas (if I eat 3 I could get a full day's potassium), and polenta is made of corn, so I can eat more stuff like that. Potatoes and rice?
Also more protein. I'm halfways vegetarian, so I need more of these too. I do love fish
I drink lactose free milk but don't eat cheese or yogurt without drama in my guts
I'm the mistake you wanna make

i recently started seeing a dietician due to what we think is wheat sensitivity and lactose intolerance... we're at the early stages... the next thing i have to do is have some breath tests to identify what the problem is... my diet has changed completely
are you familiar with the low fodmap diet?... it's the road i'm on at the moment, plus i've cut out extra stuff like all caffeine
i get carbs from potato and i just tried gluten free pasta... it's fine

i get carbs from potato and i just tried gluten free pasta... it's fine I did the breath test for lactose, the machine beeped all over the place straight away and I could go home after 15 mins. I'm not coeliac but some other blood test showed a sensitivity. I didn't test positive to fructose - if you have a fructose intolerance you have trouble with wheat I think. I have a friend with that who has to eat follow fodmap - I will go read up on it. [Edited 4/5/13 5:59am] I'm the mistake you wanna make

Wow low fodmap is restrictive. I'm lucky that if I cut out lactose and wheat I feel really good. I'm the mistake you wanna make

yeah my diet is boring as hell right now i got really sick though... i felt terrible for a few months, so i'm willing to do whatever it takes... i'd pretty much cut most stuff out before i even saw the dietician i feel good now so it's working... now i just have to fine tune and (like you) make sure i'm getting enough of what i need the goal is to slowly start adding more stuff in as i go along
try gluten free pasta though... it's not terrible

Anything that tells you to eat more carbs (especially in this day and age) is full of crap. Avoiding bread (unless it's sprouted grain bread), pasta and cereal is just good sense. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My diet is 80-10-10
The 10s are protein and carbs.
I weigh 140lbs and I am 5 11. I love fat. Hate sugar and carbs.
of course now that I am maintaining I added more good low GI carbs like beans and stuff. But I still banish carbs.
The only fruit I will eat is berries because of the fiber and antixidants. Half a banany sometimes with whip cream and raspberries at the MOST.
I started FEB 2012 I lost like 40 lbs in 2 months and maintained after that. it was nuts fast. No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ . He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take away from us, corporate. I mean O ( + >

Ex-Moderator | As of last night I'm on a no fat diet due to potential gall bladder issues. The doc said no meat, no dairy, no eggs, no oil, no nuts until we figure out what's going on with all that.
Hopefully that's soon. No fat at all is pretty difficult to sustain long-term. |

That's what I always thought. The day I logged my days intake, apart from a banana, 2 polenta squares and a few mouthfuls or rice, there were no other typical carb foods in my diet. Nutritionist told me low GI carbs should make up 1/4 of each meal. I'm the mistake you wanna make

You can never go wrong with unprocessed carbs. Try legumes (beans, peas, peanuts) or grains (maize, barley). You can make all kinds of soups and salads with them. And when you combine legumes and grains you also get high quality proteins. Also grilled sweet potatoes are delicious! “The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously.”

I had home-made pea and ham soup - and I ate an apple, some rock melon and a kiwi. I've made a batch of black beans for tomorrow nights dinner. Thanks for reminding me about barley - will put in minestrone tomorrow I'm the mistake you wanna make

I don't feel like I've eaten enough in a day if I don't have pasta at least once (about 200-250g dry weight). I'm all about protein though, around 150-250g per day. Protein makes me feel good. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

That's a lot of pasta!!! Holy cow.
I make 56g (dry) for myself, maybe twice that for the bf. |

Thanks. Already off it again.
Though I'm still having issues. Considering if I need to go to my doctor or a nutritionist. Hmmmm... |

Yeah, it is a lot. I buy 500g packets and they make me, at most, 3 meals. More if it's spaghetti, for some reason. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

If I am lazy and get no exercise, that is when I really notice how things like bread slow me down and make me feel bloated. But if I get some exercise (usually aerobic) then I can eat a stack of pancakes and feel light and thin My Legacy

But because I don't exercise enough during the week, I try to have a smoothie in the morning and not eat bread more than a couple times M-F I try to get a lot of fiber, and not too much meat. And since I am not overweight (yet--I am 41 and at 165-170 I am as heavy as I've ever been) I'm still doing okay. I've recently begun hiking with some regularity, which burns a lot of calories.
