Ricki Lake cancelled again

Due to air through the end of the season. Along with CBS TV Distribution’s Jeff Probst, Ricki Lake never found an audience to support in in the long run. A similar announcement for Jeff Probst should be coming soon. “While we are proud of the topics the program tackled including childhood obesity, life-after the military, divorce, and addiction we were simply not able to breakthrough the crowded talk show marketplace,” Stephen Brown, Twentieth TV’s EVP of programming & development said. While Ricki Lake was a disappointment, Twentieth TV did well with freshman syndicated strip Dish Nation, which was recently renewed for a second season after scoring well in young demos. And the company struck a deal for a test run of a Kris Jenner daily talk show on Fox stations this summer.

Ricki's second career run as a talk show host was doomed to fail from the beginning because her fanbase was expecting topics about hoochie mamas, baby daddys, and interracial/interculturial relationship drama. neutral

Thank goodness! Today's show was an all-time low.

NOTE: I am forced to watch "Ricki Lake" at the office because that's the only channel we can get with our HD over-the-air antenna; at least, it's the only English-speaking channel we can get. As you can surmise, I would never watch this show of my own free will!

Now, I pray that the local NBC affiliate will replace Ricki Lake with an hour of "Family Guy".

I didn't know Lake had a show; I haven't heard her name mentioned in years.

I gotta be honest here,
I could go for a hoochie mama right about now.

No Sir...Ricki's 1st time around was in the 90's and the Teens LOVED her show. Ricki was a young and Cool White Chick doing her thing in Daytime back then...

Her show was a HIT & successful and very well marketed. If you was a Teen in the 90's and NOT talking about "Go Ricki" then you were not in the know...

All Teens from the 90's use to do during Summer Break was watch Ricki Lake every morning....

nod .......and don't forget about young adults that were ages 18-25. thumbs up!

When I was living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the mid-1990s, I used to watch Ricki Lake in the weeknights. The first 3 seasons were the best, IMO.

That might've been true in 1994 but people left her for Jerry and Maury. lol

That show invented the whole "Baby mama drama" and "Cheating lovers talk show fodder that Jerry Springer and Maury have exploited.

I think it was about 93/95 I first watched that show and heard names like Shaniquah, Laquanda Alberts, Tyrone and Marquise and thought "Is this shit for real".

I remember some other really ghetto shit called Sally Jessy Raphael and a British imitation called Tasha which wasfull of Chavs, social housing types and black people with names like Misheika and Jayreem.

I am glad we are finally going off trashy talk shows, I mean Oprah was much classier than all of these other shows.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Sally is from an earlier generation (1980's) of talk show hosts as Phil Donahue (who had an earlier start in the late 1970's), Oprah, Geraldo Rivera, & Morton Downey.

Ricki Lake was from the later generation (1990's) of talk show hosts as Jenny Jones, Montel Williams. Leeza Gibsons, Richard Bey, & Charles Perez.

Damn, I'm amaze that I remember these talk shows! disbelief lol

Tell me about it. That show was as dull as dishwater. The couple times I did catch it, the topic of the show was menstrual cramping or some shit like that. Who the fuck wants to hear about that for an entire hour? Not exactly a great way to reel in many viewers.

I only watched that shit a few times, but it seemd the 90s just operned the door for trashy feminine ghetto style talk shows. Its the first we heard of names like Tay Tay and Shaniqua and they always had sound cuts from I got the power and anything by C and C music factory.

The women were mostly overweight, or over made up and all had attitude and would pump their fists and go "You go girl" and some ethical woman would say stuff like "Excuse me!" and bob their head and all that shit.

The Cleveland show episode "Your show of shows" did a great imitation of these shows and he used hilarious words like "We have had a morning cry now, we need ideas, what have you got to va-say-say" I am assuming "va -say -say" comes from a c.1996 Womens chat show.

I remember the big Black and Mexican women who would wear heaps of makeup and shiny lipstick, we called them goldfish woman, as they always had their hands on their hips and say "No u did int".

They always had pregnant teenagers, teenagers out of control, bulimics, cheating women and whores and the audience was usually trashier than the people on stage. I remember one where an unemployed girl was complaining about having no money and a big black woman got up and said "My name is Samore (Or some bizarre shit like that), do you like my earrings" and then Ricki Lake said "Why is everyone telling me their name to day" The girl on stage called them ugly and Samore says "See I got them with money I earnt from my J-O-B! Find out what it means to me" and then 2 finger snaps and head bobbing in a circle. And then several other females pumped their fists and did their "uh huhs!".

Yes trashy mall culture was planted in my head for life.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I think she should do documentaries. I likes "The business of being born" I learned a lot. Now I am not a hippie or anything or even very liberal, but those were some good points! My second delivery experience was twice as good as my first because of that movie.

I cannot give remotely similar praise of her TV shows though. She seems good real.

It's a shame that Anderson got whacked last year and Probst and Lake this year. They were good at what they do. Kris Jenner will be the biggest flop in daytime history. Queen Latifah was good on her first talk show so good luck to her, maybe she can succeed again. Everytime someone asks me if I watch The Steve Wilkos show, I want to kill them. chainsaw

If Steve Harvey can have a successful daytime talk show, anyone can. I tried watching his show a few weeks ago and I couldn't even get thru the first 5 minutes, it was so awful. disbelief
