The last 3 homemade yummy things you've prepared...? I was falling in lurve with the restaurant thread someone on this forum, and remembering how much I miss American chains because my life across the pond is all about cooking from scratch. Every once in a while I need a new shot in the arm with ideas to gt me all hopped up about what I can try next
What have you been throwing together in your kitchens lately? Stuff from your pantry? Your garden?
Pizza? Soup? Marmelade? Pesto?
Please note that johnart's pizza (from toast, red sauce and random cheese) does not count, as it's only for hangover hunger, and since the time I read that suggestion...I've already eaten those more often than I should admit to...even if I haven't been drankin'
After a week filled with family birthday time & Easter holidays, it's been a heavy cooking time at auntie Ottie's and this is what's coming outta my kitchen
Today: Roasted tomato soup w/ mozzerella
Creamy oven roasted tomat...amp; Cream
and all too easy focaccia loaves to serve with soup now and with Italian salami & cured hams later:
For Easter Sunday, one of the dishes I made was chicken breast (stuffed with SD tomatoes)
What'chu been cooking? Anybody here who knows how to slap together an easy curry, or a decent batch of biscuits? I'm pitiful at both!

RAW vegan tacos.
Very easy to make and bursting with flavor, vitamins, and phytonutrients.
Also made:
2. Boiled eggs in an electric kettle. That shit was so awesome.
3. Yam Tai Pu Gung ( bitter lettuce lemon grass salad with shrimp )

I made an insanely good risotto with shrimp and peas over the weekend. I had some leftover chicken broth and shrimp - and some peas in the freezer - so that's what I did with them.
I used up my dry vermouth, though - so I have to remember to get some more of that. [Edited 4/4/13 7:01am] We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I've become adept at making TOSTONES (a twice-fried & mashed green plantain chip);
They take twice as long to make as regular sliced chips...but they're more delicious.
I made a batch last weekend, and I have to say they came out GREAT! By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I've been making my own pork wraps and spring rolls pretty often lately. "Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"

I made a homemade pizza that was tasty...pesto, grilled chicken, red onion, mozzarella, and some black olives. I tend to make this a lot when I make pizza, mostly because I'm not really thrilled with any pizza sauce that I've made on my own. They've all been kind of bland. Pesto is way more interesting.
Since it's still chilly, I've been making some hearty comfort foods. I make a pretty good chicken pot pie from scratch.
Also, this isn't really that big of a thing when it comes to homemade food, but I just recently discovered that I love me some poached eggs, so I've been making poached-egg sandwiches like crazy lately.

Girl, get down wit'cha bad self!
That's a popular berry for marmalade here! I was just in the store earlier debating whether or not to get a jar; it's on sale this week and cheaper than the blueberry Old Dude normally eats on his breakfast toast. I think I'm going to ask him later if we can switch out, because I'm curious to see how yummy it can be.

Veggie chili covered with a layer of sharp cheddar and chopped green onions, topped with corn bread batter containing more cheddar and green onions, baked until the top of the corn bread is solid and lightly browned, all from scratch. Served with fresh avocado and chopped tomato. Made that tonight.

Do you do only beans in your Veggie chili or do you sometimes add soy products? Back in the day when I was at home in the US, I had a Veg (getarian) boyfriend once, and I got pretty addicted to Morningstar Farms soy 'meats'; I could throw down some chili with their soy crumbles! As much as I love meat, I have to say I miss not being able to just indulge in really yummy vegetarian food...never seems like enough choice ingredients over to get me excited about eating it
Before I forget, for you & Carrie MPLS and all the vegetarian folks up in here, have you ever checked this food blog out from 101 Cookbooks?

I haven't had a good batch of tostones since I left Miami. Thankfully, plantains are available over here due to the size of the African immigrant population, but, no twice fried specialties to be found . The fried plantains here are prepared in African restaurants with hot pepper spices so intense, if you have a few too many your butt will be on fire about 3 hours after consuming. They taste good though, the hot spices just kick in as an after-effect

Ex-Moderator | I made this a few nights ago:
Linguine Peperonata with Toasted Rosemary Breadcrumbs
It was super yum.
And I've been cutting down the dairy and since I miss my ice cream I make a treat most nights by blending a frozen banana w/fancy cocoa and a bit of vanilla. It's a nice substitute.

Can you get it in a supermarket?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes actually! Try going to An Asian Supermarket. Usually, if they have a Vietnamese Section, you'll find it. However, if they don't have a Vietnamese Section, try like your spices or broth Section of the Asian Supermarket. I'm pretty you can also find it anywhere in which has a big asian population and or Vietnamese Population. Any soup base will do, but, the one i used is this one Quoc Vietnam
